INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to Baltimore, Hon
The rumbling in the distance is either thunder or cannon fire. As it draws nearer, electricity and foreboding run a shiver-shock up and down the spines of the men as they shift with nervous anticipation, beginning to form the vague realization that whatever is approaching is quite capable of producing either at will.
As it draws nearer, the treacherous, the dishonest and the unjust begin to squirm and shake, sensing that something terrible comes their way, but as yet unaware it is the wheel of fate itself what has started a swift downhill sprint and closes fast in their direction.
Welcome to Stout.
Sgt P, as menacing a drummer as an army could hope to find, pounds out a lightning pace which sets the army's blood into a quick boil as it triples its pace and races breakneck into battle. Cpl D joins in with a with a bass line that is more ominous than the sound of automatic weapons fire in the not to far off distance, and the forces are called to arms. "Don't make me do this..." is Gunny T's anguished battle cry, and although the enemy has brought this down upon themselves, he is in no hurry to unleash the fury just yet. Chaos is difficult enough to control, but once totally unleashed, is almost impossible to restore to order. Capt Hardcore, the executioner, harmonizes Gunny's lyrical plea in his guitar line, cautionary, as if to say "All executions today will be performed swiftly and with as maximum amount of bloodshed as my chainsaw permits."
"Don't make me do this..." The Gunny cries again in turmoil as his steadfast grip weakens on the heavy chains he wields that hold back the hounds of hell. Lathered at the mouth, they jump and growl and snarl, chomping to unleash their own special blend of mayhem. Frenzied, one of the Cerberae bites the ear on the head next to him and they skirmish amid themselves, being pushed almost to the brink and this first taste of blood.
The army speeds on to the drumbeat, firing machine guns at will, descending to destroy all in its path. The advance is accompanied by the very distinct sound of chainsaws blaring at the ready and the rattling of weakening chains which scarcely hold back Cerberus and his brothers.
The Four Horseman have arrived.
A clockwork of controlled chaos and the sky is blood orange.
This is what it sounds like just before all hell breaks loose.
-Alexis Blake USMC
Formed 10 years ago, Baltimore, USAs Stout continue the fine tradition of hardcore that has come from that city, carrying on the distinctive choppy, brutal sound that past legends such as Gut Instinct and Next Step Up pioneered.
Their early demos (one of which features on their Rucktion release) were rough and ready, and only hinted at the savage, warlike fury that their long overdue debut unleashes. Drawing on a wide range of influences, Stout manages to be incredibly heavy yet diverse. Over the course of their album they excel across fast straight up style HC, brutal beatdowns and menacing, dirge-like hymns of hate and revenge not heard since the heyday of bands such as Neglect, Bulldoze or Sheer Terror.
All this is done without resorting to the clich..s that have plagued bands going for the tough approach. Stout floats on top of the sea of mediocre, rehashed metalcore like a bloated, headless corpse. As if this wasnt enough, their apocalyptic onslaught is topped off with some of the most unique lyrical content and vocal delivery, courtesy of the T.A.D, who is also one of the scariest looking motherfuckers whilst onstage, spitting out bitter tales of betrayal, murder and straight up insanity.
Of course, you should expect nothing less from former members of bands such as NSU, Together We Fall, Curse Of Years and the flourishing Slumlords, the only thing left to say is that mere words do little to describe the unrelenting fury that Stout unleashes.
