Facebook group name: St. Pete's H.O.T. (Helping Our Troops)
St. Pete’s H.O.T (Helping Our Troops) was formed in 2007 by Jodi Davis & Lynn Hawkins of St. Petersburg, FL. We are setting St. Pete on FIRE for our deployed men & woman of the US Military. We have the support of local fire stations, small business owners, the USF in St. Pete, Neighborhood associations and many facebook & myspace friends. It is important that we NEVER forget what our brave men & women sacrifice and continue to support them until EVERYONE of them come home.
We send care packages, we are a drop off for www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com , we send letters of love, we coordinate farewell and welcome home ceremonies for units deploying or returning and any other requests / needs or wants for veterans or active military in our community. All efforts are focused on military that has deployed from a local branch (Army AR-MEDCOM, Coast Guard, etc) or we also adopt immediate family members of St. Pete residence / business owners
Stats:
150 boxes shipped to Iraq in December 2007
45 boxes were shipped to Iraq and Afghanistan in December of 2008
A farewell ceremony for ARMEDCOM CSH 345 took place in March of 2008. Community members, city council, the mayor, media and many others donated food, time, and the wave of a flag to wish them well. This was coordinated and volunteers and donors for the event were obtained through St. Pete’s H.O.T.
80 pen pals were connected with pinellas county residents in March 2009
A Vietnam veteran with terminal cancer received donated furniture April 2009
35 phones were donated and shipped into cell phones for soldiers in November 2008
6 boxes were shipped to Iraq 10/2009
These are just some of the many things that St. Pete’s HOT, with the help of the community, does for our soldiers and veterans
We are currently working on becoming a 501 ( c ) 3, but since we don’t have this status it makes funding our efforts tricky. This is a goal we wish to accomplish this year. However, in the mean time we have to take what the gracious hearts in the community entrust to us...that could be funding for shipping (with pennies for packages), donated items that can be shipped over seas, adopting of a soldier as a pen pal / recipient of care packages, etc.
Please feel free to contact Lynn Hawkins with any questions or visit one of our sites for more details, to view pictures of our adopted soldiers and some of our events and to read some of the press coverage.
Thank you!!

Thanks for befriending me! Get to know more about me in my daily blogs. I write the occasional writing-related tidbit but I prefer posting the things that fascinate me—jokes, life events, trivia, items that catch my interest, and my regular Friday feature, Karen’s Friday Fixin’s [ my favorite homemade recipes]. Thanks! Karen

I am truly blessed with the gift of your friendship. I'm very sorry that I haven't been in touch like I should have lately. With all that has been going on with Winston I have not gotten too many chances to be online. The weeks have really gone by fast. I praise God so much that Winston is improving and is almost back to 100%. Now we’re going through an uncertain future with JJ as he remains in ICU at the animal hospital. Hopefully everything will be fine and back to normal soon. Will you please keep our family in your prayers? Thank you for understanding and continuing to be my friend.
Happy Memorial Day Week-End!!. Also To Our Military and Veterans, I want to say THANK YOU & GOD BLESS YOU, for your Service and Sacrifices. "All Gave Some,,,Some Gave All".
