Straight, Not Narrow

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

My name is Jim Johnson, and I am a straight man who is happily married to Brenda, a pastor at our open and affirming church. I want to do my part to help people understand what the Lord REALLY told us in the Bible and continues to teach us through the Holy Spirit. GLBT people are not second class citizens in the Kingdom of God, they are full brothers and siters with everyone else.

My blog, Straight, Not Narrow, advocates for GLBT equality from a Progressive Christian viewpoint.

Ministry and advocacy pretty well takes up my time away from work, and I love it! When I need a break, I read, write, listen to music, or watch a ball game. I was a free-lance sportswriter for several years and still love sports with great passion, especially University of Maryland men's hoops and football and the Baltimore Ravens. ..

..

Who I'd like to meet:

Any straight people who have been moved enough by the second-class treatment GLBT people receive to become involved in advocating for their equal rights. I would also like to meet any GLBT people who have been shunned and hurt by their church experiences to show them another side to Christianity and Jesus they may never have seen, the one where God accepts them just as they are.

    "SURELY WE CAN'T LET THIS SITUATION CONTINUE.. CAN WE?"
    A MESSAGE FOR US ALL FROM SIR DAVID FROST REGARDING PHOTO DYNAMIC THERAPY CANCER TREATMENT.

    With much due respect, sometimes I have to ask myself why there has been no support from ANY of the Cancer Awareness Sites for the treatment of Photo Dynamic Therapy that is clearly outlined on my page.

    Sir David Frost asks the same question in his message and he hopes (as we do) that all Cancer Awareness & Support Networks back this treatment 100%.

    Please listen carefully and hear what Sir David has to say in this brief message - and be aware that although PDT is not widely licensed for use, it IS NOW Licensed in the USA for the FIRST TIME and patients can now consider this option as a far less invasive and far more successful treatment for breast, skin and prostate cancers in particular. Please.... read my page carefully and see our official website at www.pdtcancertreatment.com

    A monumental leap forward in cancer treatment has now taken place.

    Pink ribbons will not cure cancer. PDT has a significantly high success rate in doing so.

    With much respect... please help us to save suffering and save lives by sharing & using this knowledge, and also by becoming a true campaigner with us for Photo Dynamic Therapy - a successful cancer treatment which has been kept hidden for far too long. Again, we must ask "surely, we can't let this situation continue, can we?”
    Peace to your home,
    Gabriella, INDIANA CENTER, ADVANCED MEDICINE.

    Salutations,

    I’m going through my friends’ list one prayer at a time, lifting your needs and that of your family before the throne of God. Here is a reminder from God’s Word:

     “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35

     To me this seems an awesome ambition – to love others as Christ loves us. We cannot do it in our own power, but only as we allow the fountain of His love to bubble up in our hearts and flow out to those around us. May your fountain overflow more and more each day as you grow in the certainty of His love for you.

    Many blessings from

    your friend, who is
    Dedicated to Christ (aka Tammy)

    Peace Pictures, Images and Photos

    "In Switzerland I was educated in line with the basic premise: work work work. You are only a valuable human being if you work. This is utterly wrong. Half working, half dancing - that is the right mixture. I myself have danced and played too little."

    One of her greatest wishes was to build a Hospice" for infants and children infected with AIDS, to give them a last home where they could live until their passing. In 1985 she attempted to do this in VA but local residents feared the possibility of infection and blocked the necessary re-zoning.

    In 1994, she lost her house and possessions to an arson fire that is suspected to have been set by opponents of her work. She conducted many workshops in all parts of the world.
    Her extensive work with the dying led to the book "On Death and Dying" in 1969. In this work she proposed the now famous Five Stages of Dying. These five stages are: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance.

    Hello.
    Hope you're doing good.
    So what do you think the final healthcare reform bill should be named?
    "Ted Kennedy?" "The American Plan"?
    ...and why do the conservatives continue to hijack the national debate?

    After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...

    Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
    (please see my blog):
    TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001

    Where traditions are not so rare;
        Sea, country and works scent the air;
    A multitude of monuments,
        Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

    The longish pedestrian malls;
        The remnants of defensive walls;
    Historic buildings are a gauge
        Of the respect for heritage.

    Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
        Estuaries guarded by shields;
    Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
        Romantic-ruin go-betweens.

    Rivers in parts licked by trees,
        Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
    And crossed by practical delights -
        Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.

    Fine churches headed at Durham;
        Football kits ad infinitum;
    Kept castles - one for study;
        Masonry behind masonry.

    And, with moulding-works out that way,
    It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

    Imagine there's no Heaven
    It's easy if you try
    No hell below us
    Above us only sky
    Imagine all the people
    Living for today

    Imagine there's no countries
    It isn't hard to do
    Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too
    Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace

    You may say that I'm a dreamer
    But I'm not the only one
    I hope someday you'll join us
    And the world will be as one

    Imagine no possessions
    I wonder if you can
    No need for greed or hunger
    A brotherhood of man
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world

    Hello everyone,
    This is Shawn's cousin Susie. Sadly, he asked me to communicate to his top 40 friends on his and Chris' page that Chris passed away 2 weeks ago today at the age of 34. As all of you know from their story which aired on Intervention on A&E, Chris fought against his addiction to alcohol for many years, but in the end, he decided to end his life and lifelong struggle.  Shawn, along with both sides of families and friends are devastated, but most of all, Shawn is because he found him. Please pray for him, he is taking it very hard. He also asked me to convey that you honor Chris and his life by TELLING his story. Tell everyone you know to view their page so that they can see what an amazing couple they were and so that this doesnt have to happen to anyone else...ADDICTION DOES KILL! Honor Chris by saying something on your page or theirs. Since the services, we have received thousands of messages from people all over the world that shared different ways that thier story on Intervention on A&E touched or changed their lives. Again, please pray for Shawn and all of us. This is a very tragic and painful loss to many.
    Sincerely,
    Shawn and Chris' Families and Friends

    Hope all is going well, my friend.

    Photobucket

    This is the cause of my life. It is a key reason that I defied my illness last summer to speak at the Democratic convention in Denver—to support Barack Obama, but also to make sure, as I said, "that we will break the old gridlock and guarantee that every American...will have decent, quality health care as a fundamental right and not just a privilege." For four decades I have carried this cause—from the floor of the United States Senate to every part of this country. It has never been merely a question of policy; it goes to the heart of my belief in a just society. Now the issue has more meaning for me—and more urgency—than ever before. But it's always been deeply personal, because the importance of health care has been a recurrent lesson throughout most of my 77 years.

    An era ends but the fight continues....
