"MESSAGES" NOW AVAILABLE ON:
A compilation of Strand's Message Series. It's comprised of Message I, released on Shake's Frictional Recordings, and Message II and Message III, released on Delsin Records. Contains 2 bonus tracks.
Brian Bonds, Brian Boyer and Kech Harrington craft sublime, liquid Detroit techno that pairs subtle melodies with lush rhythms for a timeless sound. Their singles for Amsterdam label Delsin and Anthony “Shake” Shakir’s Frictional are gathered on the excellent Messages.- Peter Nicholson (XLR8R)
Outside of the great celebrated triumvirate of Atkins, Saunderson and May, Detroit has dozens of journeymen waiting to be discovered. The trio called Strand is no exception. Eschewing the formulaic approach, their first full-length album is full of intricacies and quirks, but remains a very smooth production...Messages is a microcosm of everything that's right with Detroit techno.- Dan Sick (XLR8R)
With "Message 2," the guys seek to keep classic Motown techno's soul principles alive at a time when much of the genre seems to be almost goose-stepping into bangin' monotony...Like all items on the hot side of techno's blueprint, these tracks are simply well-structured builders with loads of imagination, character and soul.- Ron Nachmann (XLR8R)
In 1980, childhood friends Brian Boyer, Kenneth "Kech" Harrington and Brian Bonds formed Plan 9, a Funk-Pop trio influenced by Jazz, Parliament-Funkadelic, XTC and The Police. They all shared an intense interest in underground dance music and in tracks the Electrifying Mojo played on Detroit’s airwaves in the early 80’s. In 1992, they began recording as THD for the Serious Grooves label. Their first release was “THD Experiment”, one of a three EP limited set distributed by Neil Rushton’s Nettwerk Records. Recording tracks and remixes as THD, Kech, and Kech and B. Bonds for Serious Grooves, React and Tresor, they proved to be experimental and funky.
In 1997, under the name Strand, they recorded the “Floyd Cramer’s Revenge” EP for Frictional Recordings. January 2001 saw the release of "Message I" on Frictional as well. Subsequent EP's came via Amsterdam's delsin.records in the form of "Message II" in October of 2001 and “Message III” in October of 2002. This series (plus two bonus tracks) also comprises the 2003 delsin.records cd compilation "Messages".
