"Next up came Strange Folk. What can I say about this hugely talented four piece but "wow". These guys have simply got to get signed by somebody. Driven on by the sensational, haunting voice of Annalise Spurr they reminded me all at once of PJ Harvey (never a bad thing), Fairport Convention and even, admittedly a strange one, The Bangles".
(Neil Skinner Observer)
"Starting off like a world famous Fairport Convention hit, or an early 1970s Renaissance masterpiece, this vibrant song
reveals feelings of a personal discovery, carried along with confidence by a clean acoustic rhythmic groove and oodles of
excellent vocal harmony. It's not unfair to compare Annalise's voice and phrasing to that of Renaissance's own Annie
Haslam... lovely."
(Lemonrock review of the song "Searching")
"All in all a wonderful showcase for a band with a great sound. Driven rock aspirations are tempered by more considered creative juices, not least the sometimes ethereal, sometimes rafter-raising vocals and the overall result is as stunning as it is clever. The musical building blocks may be familiar, but they are being re-constructed in an altogether new way. What more can you ask of a band?".
( Excerpt taken from a review in the "Rock" section of on-line music magazine "Green Man Music )
Strange Folk evolved in Hertfordshire during 2002. But there’s nothing strange about this band of three guys and one girl, or their music - which is a vibrant fusion of retro rock, folk and neo-gothic elements.
Distinct rock aspirations are tempered by a recognisable folk vein running through their songs in varying degrees, with dark impressive vocals riding the crest of a truly great sound.
More examples of their music can be found at Strange Folk Website
