The Portland, Maine based foursome otherwise known as Strange Pleasure isn’t lacking in perseverance. Not just a rock band and not quite a jam band Strange Pleasure blends rollicking melodies and soothing harmonies with searing guitar work that leaves fans wanting more. John Clavette (Guitar and Vocals) and Ryan Cyr (Drums and Vocals), both natives of Aroostook County, seem to share the same musical lineage. Their vocal harmonies are seamlessly woven throughout the bands repertoire of original songs. Lead guitarist Richard Corson (Guitar and Vocals), blessed with the kind of raw talent most axe slingers can only dream of, is no stranger to leaving jaws on the floor. Keith Mann (Bass and Vocals) puts the icing on the cake, laying down the low-end grooves that keep the dance floor moving. Together the foursome creates an infectious sound as evidenced by the devotion of their loyal followers.
Since their earliest days captivating coed’s at the University of Maine, the band, and their fans, have seen some good times and some bad. After getting together in 1996 it wasn’t long before the guys decided to give music a shot fulltime. Eager to propagate a following outside of Orono, the band headed south to hone their chops in Southern Maine. Constant gigging during the late 1990’s earned the band a devoted fanbase, but the success didn’t come easy. The band endured theft and onstage blowups that reshaped the lineup several times over.
In 2001 Cyr, Clavette, and Corson reunited with original bassist Keith Mann after a year of seemingly uninspired shows. The move revitalized the band and fans were rewarded as the music climbed to new heights. Everything seemed right in 2002 with the band embarking on an east coast tour and plans to hit the studio. In the fall of 2002 before a capacity crowd at Portland’s Alehouse, the band was joined onstage by guitar master Warren Haynes and bassist George Porter Jr, yet another highlight of a great year. Less then two months later Strange Pleasure shocked and saddened their fans when they announced that New Years Eve would be their final show.
It took five years and an unfortunate illness, but on December 1, 2007 Strange Pleasure took the stage at Portland’s Big Easy. Those lucky enough to be in attendance quickly realized the boys hadn’t lost a step, and were treated to an inspired set of fan favorites. Recognizing the synergy between them ought not to be wasted, two months later Strange Pleasure announced plans to reunite. Five years the wiser, Strange Pleasure is back and ready to take the world by storm. Homegrown: The Strange Pleasure Story Add to My Profile | More Videos
