Sounds Like
Smart, soaring, anthemic modern rock. With sort of a British twist. Think of bands you don't hate -- that's us. Other active ingredients: Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, Boxer Rebellion, old Cure, Smiths, Catherine Wheel, Joy Division...

Strangest Places have been writing and performing urgent, dynamic, spacey, driving, heartbreaking, meaningful rock tunes you've never heard of since 1999.
The band (vocals/keyboards, guitar, bass, drums) avoids falling on their respective swords by dreaming up melodies that pay homage to influences like U2, The Church, Crowded House, Elbow, The Doves, Massive Attack, Radiohead, The Police and Underworld.
Since the band's 1999 debut CD, "Hiding the Igniting Girl," two critically acclaimed recordings have also been released: 2002's "Very Loud Thoughts," and 2004's "*Optional." A fourth record, "Exit Strategy," will be released in 2008, with additional new material to follow.
Mrs. Gowanus, the line between us is so fine
What makes people act the way they do?
Mrs. Gowanus, this bar will be forever ours
Why did you have to leave us so soon?
It couldn’t have been the right time
It couldn’t have been so soon
Mrs. Gowanus, the lines between us are so fine
What secrets do you hide?
What futures can you tell me?
Looking into the cup you hold
Mrs. Gowanus, are you really so old,
That you alone know,
When the truth becomes lies,
Through the passage of time?
Mrs. Gowanus, why are you singing to the stones?
Do they tell you what you need to know?
Our seats are so far away
Mrs. Gowanus, the line between us is so fine
What makes people act the way they do?
Mrs. Gowanus, are we really losing you?
Damien told me that you'd play 11/29 at the Social for my birthday. By LOA standards, this is a binding contract, especially since he was totally drunk. The verbal contract was that you guys would play the cover of "Shout" and "The Tea Party" and another 1.5 hours and haul in your PA in exchange for dinner and booze. Lots of booze. I offered a guarantee, but Damien said you'd all rather work for trade. It would behoove you to not make him your manager. But the verbal contract is binding, you guys are my bitches. But I will feed you cake. And I promised Shannon that I'd show her my boobs. *yawn*
"What a web we weave." Lol. I remember that backwards in the studio. Aaaaaahhh ... missed the ol' days for a sec and had to listen to some good ol' Strangest. Anyhoo ... would love to get a chance for Hindsight to open for you guys and we'll get you back up here. Don't worry about money this time ;) Hope all is well and please tell everyone I said hello.
It came on random on my ipod last night, woke up with it in my head... got to work, turned my mixer up (i usually just leave itunes running) and... full speed ahead was playing.
fitting as i had just had to say, "onward with our lives" last night to somebody... what the hell, guys. i mean seriously.
You wore the sky like water On the sand we found ourselves shifting In response to the understanding That the sun may be your only friend But you turned your head away And let talk what we could never debate You knew the glare wasn’t from the sand You could live with what you were It was obvious that if you ever felt the need to ask There would always be a hand to help you
Stretched out on the sand you showed no lines Your lotions went on smoothly disappearing Only grains of sand visible on your skin The sky found no impediment to you body You tore down all the barriers yourself You were the one between us and the rising sun But you were the one that blinded We could see no lines there
I'm finally listening to these newer tracks and...yeah, they're good. I won't lie. Let me know when you're going to put out a record. I might know some people who could write about it. Miss y'all very much.
