JOHN KEANE: lead vocals, lead guitar. John Keane Studios. Record producer, musician, author. Born in Athens, Georgia. Hobbies include boating, biking, and carpentry. Played lead guitar for T. Graham Brown and the Rio Diamond Band circa '80. Played in Phil in the Blanks, the hottist local band of its time, playing everything from Swing to New Wave music, from 80'ish until 85. Recently, John had the honor of being a guest guitarist on tour with Widespread Panic during the summer and fall tours of 2006. John serves on the Board of Directors for the University of Georgia's fledgling Music Business Program in the prestigious Terry School of Business. The man who wrote the book, A Musician's Guide to Pro Tools, also wrote the curriculam for a short course at UGA. John will be teaching a required recording class to about 70 students at UGA Fall 2007. It would seem the Panic fans were havng a premonition when they dubbed him "the Professor" on tour in 2006.
SCOTT SANDERS: bass, vocals. Graphic Designer at UGA. Born in Warner Robins, raised in Macon. Shutterbug. Scott can also be found around Athens playing in his other band, The Unforgiven. Played piano as a child, then drums, then began playing guitar at 11. Played guitar for Landsharks, an instumental progressive rock band. Landsharks recorded a demo in John Keane Studios '81 and recorded a CD in '89. Band broke up in '90. The Landsharks would be the conduit to connect the musicians that would later become Strawberry Flats.
TIM WHITE: keyboards. General contractor and custom designer/installer of specialty trim carpentry. Had a carpentry partnership with Deane for years. Born in Athens, Georgia, John and Tim have been making music together since they were 15 years old. Tim played for T. Graham Brown and the Rio Diamond Band along with John and Deane. Tim was also in Phil and the Blanks along with John and Deane. He held a regular post with The Randall Bramblett Band whenever they played locally for years. Tim and Deane can always be found when legendary local favorite Motown soul band, Rack of Spam, plays about twice a year, usually when the college students clear out. Rack of Spam's original singer was T. Graham Brown; Clerence Young has been the front man since Tony Brown's departure for Nashville circa '81. Tim has an extensive and eclectic music collection.
DEANE QUINTER: drums. Independent trim carpenter. Born in Winder, Georgia. Working as a part time mechanic on his old tractor and TR-3 sports car fills his spare time when he isn't drumming for the Flats, The Normal Flyers, Blue Rhythm or the rare appearance of Rack of Spam. Played drums for T. Graham Brown and the Rio Diamond Band and later for for Phil and the Blanks.
Strawberry Flats was created by Wade Hester in 1985 who traded off lead vocals and lead guitar with John. The band took an 11 year hiatus between gigs until the last two or three years. Wade's busy professional schedule made picking up gigs with the Flats impossible. All members are the original members minus Wade. The Flats came together during Landsharks recording session making the connection of Wade, John, Scott, Tim, and Deane.
As a point of interest, in addition to Wade Hester and Scott Sanders, the Landsharks included Paul "Crumpy" Edwards and Cal Hale. Paul has been working for Widespread Panic for years. Most of the photos in the slideshow were taken by Cal Hale.

As of 3 years ago New Orleans was my home. I was abruptly uprooted as a result of Hurricane Katrina. So you can only imagine how heavy my heart feels this weekend watching the city preparing for the possibility of being hit by a similar sized storm. Yet I am filled with gratitude as I know that I am equipped with the ability to help those that are going to need assistance as a result of the storm. No matter where this storm hits, those there are going to need help. I am proudly announcing that I am coordinating concerts/seminars around the United States to benefit victims in need. This is resulting from my recently published book (The Remains of Hurricane Katrina), and my dream of one day being able to help victims of all types. The first of these events is being planned in New Mexico to benefit their domestic violence victims. I am asking all singers, bands and anyone that can help with these events to contact me as soon as possible. We need all the participation and help that we can acquire. The events are going to have to occur as soon as possible. Please refer to my site for further information or contact me as soon as possible, no matter who you are, if you want to help. It is true, only good results from helping others. It makes dreams come true. Sandra Speer International Marketing Consultant/Promoter Author-The Remains of Hurricane Katrina 954.718. 0733
