"Streben" is the denomination for a philosophic and literary ethic of German Romanticism and it means the spiritual tension derivated from the attempts of transcending reality's bonds. This word perfectly reflects the musical proposal of this duo, but at the same time is attinent to the general concept behind the project: escaping a dull reality to regain individuality in a more personal dimension.
The foundation of Streben was established in late 2007, consequently to its mastermind Cristina Hagalaz's own will; the starting line - up, which basically remained stationary, involved Hagalaz herself, handling keyboards, bass, vocal and composition duties, and the guitarist Valker who was already member of raw black metal band Cold Empire.
The duo spent the successive months recording a first, home recorded demo, entitled ...of Melancholic Elegies and Wanderlust, with the help of Cold Empire's drummer Dark Shadow as a guest member. The aforesaid demo, composed of three songs and an acoustic outro, was then released in May 2008, and obtained a good underground worldwide feedback [see blog for reviews!], despite its quite amateurish quality; in fact, it's nowadays sold - out.
The sound featured on that demo, however, soon turned out to be unsuitable to Streben's spirit and concept; this brought female mastermind Cristina Hagalaz to start writing new music for a further release. The evolution process of her songwriting gave form to a collection of songs that have been recorded by Streben between 2008 and 2009 and that have eventually been included in Streben's debut full - lenght Wild Enchanted Gardens, which has been released under the banner of Naturmacht Productions on December the 10th, 2009.

Streben is NOT a religious project of any kind, not heathen/pagan, nor christian.
