Street Wise Publishing Co's Interests
|
| General |
This is the story of two young African American
girls who become the furthest thing from
erstwhile innocents raised in strict caring
homes. Fate and circumstance quickly
transform our lead characters.
Taking a job as a baby sitter leads to abuse
and manipulation - forced prostitution - drug
dependency - and ultimately, a survival mode
that features an adopted attitude (see title)
where conscience is completely absent.
Just out of High School the girls find
themselves living as Gangster Molls in the
ruthless and fast paced drug world of New
York. They learn to kill in order to survive.
They learn from the experts.
Both have an incredible will to survive, for
themselves, and to provide for family. Both are
resilient and strong in their individual ways.
Sadly, only one has the true tenacity to endure
to the end.

The wolf trap by Dennis Wise
Warning - This book is not for the
sheepish or the shy!
The wolf trap is a gripping story filled with vivid
scenes of intense sex, violence and raw emotions.
The tale begins when Bulls Eye gets released after
serving five long years in one of American's most
dangerous prisons. Soon he meets Alina, a beautiful
woman with an ugly past and a dark secret.
Together, they set out to build an illegal fortune and
to fulfill a slain brother's final wish.
Across their path comes Anna, whose luscious
body proves to be both a blessing and a curse. The
list of rich hustlers, all pursuing this top-rated
stripper, includes a smooth gambler named Eddie
and a vicious killer called Wolf. Anna's choice starts
a sweet romance and ignites a bitter feud. High
level smack dealers line up on one side and a
deadly stick-up crew on the other.
See what happens when a flock of sexy women get
caught between two of the most powerful crime
figures in Baltimore trying to destroy each other.

Raised on the gritty streets of Baltimore, Md. - Dennis
seemed to be a magnet for trouble. In the late 70’s,
federal authorities accused him of being part of a
Chicago-based drug ring. New York police charged him
with the 1979 murder of an alleged stickup artist. He
has spent decades in high security prisons located both
in Maryland and Arizona. Behind bars, he has earned
his GED, a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, and the
ire of prison officials.
Today, Dennis uses his creative talents to write about a
very dark and destructive lifestyle - aka - “The Game”.
His books are filled with chilling depictions of brutal
violence, intense sex, and the relentless struggles of the
powerless to become powerful. He allows the reader to
get an up- close look - into a dangerous world - from a
safe distance.

About me:
Prison Journal
It happened 28 years ago but I still remember lying in bed with my pregnant wife when the cops barged into our home. They arrested me for a murder that I knew nothing about at a time when my family needed me the most. Our beautiful daughter took her first breath in April 1979 and her last breath in July of the same year. A month later, the jail officials accused me of plotting an escape. They sent an army of guards to search for a gun that I had supposedly arranged to have smuggled in. When the imaginary weapon couldn’t be found, they transferred me to the lockdown section of the Maryland Penitentiary.
Only convicted felons are supposed to be in the penitentiary and I had yet to be given a trial. The August heat combined with the stench of the clogged up toilets made the lockup unit nearly unbearable. I was still mourning the death of my daughter and trying to prepare for court. Eventually, a judge ordered that I should be returned to the Baltimore City Jail. Not surprisingly, I was isolated on a section that had been closed for repairs. In April 1980, I was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
If there is a correct way to spend the rest of your life in prison, nobody told me. All I knew for sure was that I didn’t belong in prison.
The Maryland Penitentiary was built before the civil war. The cells were tiny and ventilation was poor if not altogether absent – an antiquated sewer drainage system allowed for rats to come in from the surrounding city.
I had no regard for the rules and no intentions of submitting to anyone’s authority. My aggressive behavior led to a fight in which I was stabbed in the neck. After spending a year on lockdown for that, I got involved in another incident which landed me back in lockdown for another two and a half years.
During the summer of 1985, a “phantom informer” told the warden that I, along with several others, were planning an escape. This resulted in another long stay in solitary confinement.
Books became my best friends while I spent those years in the hole. I learned a lot about history from reading the works of J.A. Rodgers, Dr. Na’im Akbar, and Chancellor Williams. While reading about the struggles of Che Guevera, Mao Tse Tong and Malcolm X, I discovered the value of organized protest and self discipline. I also began to see prayer as a source of complete solace.
Upon arriving back into the general population, I enrolled in the college program and completed the 4 year course of study with a 3.7 GPA. That felt real good. I became involved with the Alternatives to Violence Project - first as a student, later becoming a trainer.
In 1988, a riot broke out in which several guards were badly beaten. Two prisoners were shot in the head. At the height of this chaos, the warden ordered me to make the prisoners put down their weapons and surrender. I refused, and was placed on lockdown, briefly. The NAACP was made aware of the incident and intervened on my behalf.
During a hostage situation in 1991 and again during a barricade situation in ’96, I was asked to intervene.
Finally in 1999, eleven years after my last trip to the hole, Maryland officials classified me as a security threat and shipped me away. I now reside in a prison in the Arizona desert. In addition to reading, I now write books. Why do I choose to write fiction? Because the truth appeals to so few people.
Mr. Wise has published two books The Wolf Trap and In Guns We Trust. The Last Stop will be his next offering (coming in November 2007).

Guidelines for Submissions
StreetWise Publishing seeks writers, poets, and the like who speak to the specific genre of urban life stories. This certainly includes novels and poems about triumphs accomplished in spite of the guns and bullets (slings and arrows would be a total understatement) and tough luck odds of becoming a success in a world expanding far beyond the haunts of so-called life in America’s ghettos. All original works describing elements of urban life will be considered for publication.
