About me: The return of a surf shop concept that at least began for us in 1985. Strictly Hardcore Surf & Shape, once again located in the same building, and off the same corner as it was when it launched in December of '85, the corner of 37th Street and Avenue R, in Galveston, Texas. A re-issue of an old idea-- watching custom surfboards being shaped and purchasing exclusive surf related wares, all under the same roof. The "surf shop" concept was born in California back in the 50's, thanks to the late Dale Velzy, who first began selling his surfboards,pariffin wax and t-shirts in the front of his shop, while shaping his surfboards in the back. All other board makers soon followed and the "surf shop" was born.
Strictly Hardcore is the home of Senator Surfboards, shaped by James Fulbright. Strictly Hardcore is the ONLY surf shop in the Houston/Galveston area that has an in-house shaping room. Strictly Hardcore also adhere's to the decades old concept of the "authorized dealer". This concept started in the early 70's. Once surf related clothing and accessory lines were launched, each company would pick a particular shop, or "authorized dealer" to showcase their lines and/or each surf shop would pick a particular company and sell their wares. This would allow diversity and selection among the various, competing shops for the customers to choose from. As an example, you would go to one shop for say Katin and another for Hang Ten or Op. Today, more often than not, most of what you see in today's surf shops (and mall and big box stores that sell surf lifestyle clothing) are the same, top 4 major companies, that pretty much dominate the industry, while the smaller,start-up, more niche and unique surf and skate lines are struggling for floor space, or lost in the shuffle.
Strictly Hardcore showcases the dying art of hand shaped, locally made surfboards, as well as some of the underground, forgotten, start-up or niche clothing and accessory lines that exist in the surfing industry, but are rarely seen in mainstream shops.

My son's and I came into your shop on R this weekend, I came to check out your long boards, even though there was no surf it was worth the 2 hour drive, I will be back at the end of June to get one, The feel of the shop was Awesom ! My older son said that it was one of the coolest places he had ever been. My dad used to take me and my buddy's to the island to surf, and go to the skate park, that used to be by the water slide on the seawall, So now I want to have that with my boy's, See yall soon !
