The Strictly MMA.com Manifesto
The first question that should be asked by any fan coming here is: why should I read Strictlymma instead of Sherdog, Insidefighting, mmaweekly or one of the dozens of other MMA related sites? The answer is you should read both. Those sites are for news and ours to tell you what the news means.
Our goal at Strictly MMA is to provide in-depth analysis and commentary about MMA. We are a group of serious MMA fans who weren’t satisfied with what we were reading and think we can do better. We are not a news site, although we will compile the news for you. A lot of fans who watch MMA want to know more about the sport or hear from people who can explain it coherently.
They not only want to know who won the ICON Middleweight Title, they want to know how and they want to know more than "because he punched the other guy really hard in the face." We’ll explain things like where different promotions, fighters, etc. fit in the overall scheme of MMA. Is being Pride LHW champ a better accomplishment than being LHW King of Pancrase? Why is Extreme Fighting important in the history of MMA?
We want to marry good writing to MMA knowledge and provide a place for the thinking fan to go. In college I was a huge movie fan. I would go to Roger Ebert’s web site to read reviews of movies I was interested in. Eventually I started reading reviews for movies I wasn’t interested in just because the writing was so good and he knew so much about film. Occasionally this would lead me to take a chance on a movie I didn’t previously consider. Sometimes I just enjoyed reading. That is what we aspire to be for MMA fans.
One of the most exciting features of this site is the "Definitive History of MMA." Every few days one of our writers will highlight something in MMA history. The articles will be archived and the other writers will amend and add to them in a process similar to the Wikipedia (but only our writers will add and change). Initially there will be a few articles (we have the origins of TKO and one on Tom Erikson in the pipeline) but soon you will be able to find anything you need about MMA history.
After you read the articles look for ongoing feedback from our other writers. We won’t set up false debates for the sake of filling space but when our writers disagree with each other they will say so and explain why.
I hope you like our site and your suggestions or feedback are welcome.
Sincerely
Mark Davies
