She flew seven thousand kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean in the cold of night, flapping her silent powdery wings with determination, with a secret mission driving her hunger for something found! She left behind a black cat, and the shifting of sunlight across her cage full of things, full of memories flapping in the wind, drenched in drizzled rain!
I found her at the train station with her purple cases suited for a royal queen, albeit faded with sadness of sovereign loss. Yet, there she was, regally cloaked in leaden lowliness, borne under heavy clouds writ in ancient tongues, and mysterious words spoken by the creed of night.
She was a moth, come to bear witness to an imprisoned soul. I had invited her to do so, I had asked her to attend to my horror with her blackened eyes. I had asked her to see me since I had grown blind to my own reflection!
On the last day of her visit, lit by the cadmium light of a votive candle, she looked at me, the flame caught in her eyes, and whispered, “I am saddened. I had come here to find an artist, a man of vision, and instead I have found an imprisoned soul caught in bourgeois shackles dying a slow death”. She looked away, “I will not return lest you learn to fly with moths!”
