Bio
Having formed around the kitchen table during Melbourne's winter, String Theory has performed at folk festivals and venues across Australia. With sweet vocal harmonies, fiddles, Appalachian dulcimer and funky cello and banjo grooves, they play traditional Appalachian music with a rhythmic twist. Getting their groove on at the National Folk Festival in Canberra, they were awarded the Peter Daly Award for best upcoming young traditional group, and were winners of the infinite Motown competition. The members of the band, Pria Schwall-Kearney (fiddle, banjo, vocals), Lucy Wise (fiddle, Appalachian dulcimer, vocals), Evan Davies (banjo, guitar), and Claire Alleway (cello), come out of eclectic musical backgrounds, having been brought up in the vibrant Australian folk music community. Their interest in the songs and stories in Appalachian folk music was inspired by their travels in America, and Lucy and Pria grew up with many of the songs being sung at home (or in the car). Their debut CD, "Trimmed in Red" features their own arrangements of traditional and contemporary Appalachian songs and tunes. -
