Andy's Interests
|
| General | Writing. Did I say that? Marketing. Gaming. Reading. Film. And movies. My kid. God. Death. Sex. Sleep. I love chocolate, but can't eat it because it's a migraine trigger, as is any kind of alcohol for me now. Bummer, eh? | | Music | Yes. I like music. Have been singing and playing keyboards since I was a small. Have more recently (in the last 15 years) built and learned to play mountain dulcimers.
Specific groups/artists/genres? OK... here we go...
Thievery Corporation, Tom Jones, They Might Be Giants, Tangerine Dream, Talking Heads, Tchaikovsky, B52's, Ani DeFranco, Alanis Morisette, The Animals ("House of the Rising Sun" is an amazing song...), Aubrey Atwater, Barenaked Ladies, The Beatles, Black Eyed Peas, Billy Joel, Cab Calloway, Chuck Berry, Credence, Sting, Supertram, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Sidney Bechet, Sade, Andres Segovia, Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLaughlin, Robert Cray, Crosby Stills Nasy & Young, Dire Straits, Dirty Vegas, Eminem, Eric Clapton, BB King, Fall Out Boy, Fatboy Slim, Fiona Apple (I would have sex, if possible, with the song, "Slow Like Honey"), Genesis (Peter Gabriel era, of course), Peter Gabriel, Harry Connick Jr., Porishead, Pink, Pink Floyd, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, many classic American musicals [Kismet being the one you've never heard of that you should see/hear], Nelly Furtado, Moxy Fruvous, The Moody Blues, Mike Oldfield, Tangerine Dream, Meatloaf, Manhattan Transfer, Ludwig van Beethoven, Liz Phair, Led Zeppelin, The Kingston Trio, KD Lang, Jackson Browne, The J. Geils Band, Aerosmith, and anything played by cute, redheaded, lady Irish fiddlers. | | Movies | Too many to list. We'll come back to this one later. | | Television | The Daily Show, Project Runway, Battlestar Gallactica, Nip/Tuck [shamefully... oh, god, it is bad for us... so, so bad... and yet I love it so], Alias, the Science Channel, the History Channel, the Discovery Channel, Bravo in general. | | Books | Oh, God. Again, too many to list. In many categories. If you are a sci-fi/cyberculture person and haven't read both "Snowcrash" and "Cryptonomicon" by Neal Stephenson, get busy. "The World is Flat" by Friedman should be required for all college students these days, as should "Freakonomics." I read "The Lessons of Terror," by Caleb Carr (who is more famous for the very good mystery fiction piece, "The Alienist") last year, and it was a great take on the subject of limited-war vs. total-war. I also highly recommend Fareed Zakaria's "The Future of Freedom." |

Andy's Blurbs |
About me:
I write. A lot. Lots of different stuff. And read constantly. I've posted just about all the poetry, and some fiction, that I've written in the past 10 years at Lit.org, a decent site for aspiring writers to find a voice, and voices.
As a professional writer, though, it is hard to find others who are serious about improving their craft. At Lit, I've managed to find some folks who aren't just "posting for the sake of posting," or who aren't writing as pscyhotherapy, or aren't just looking for a stroke. Which is nice. Always looking for more people who are serious about writing to talk about it seriously.
Other places you'll find my work.
TinkerX, my regular blog
Strong Words, my Etsy store.
My Lulu store, where you can buy TaleWeaver, a book/game and set of creativity exercizes that can help you improve your writing.

Who I'd like to meet:
Anyone, pretty much. I'm just that gregarious. Specifically, though, I guess I'd like to meet Marshall McLuhan, Frank Herbert, Cory Doctorow, Neal Stephenson, Téa Leoni, Chuck Palahniuk, Emma Thompson, Umberto Eco, Elleanor of Aquitaine, Fareed Zakaria, Arthur C. Clarke, Henri de Tououse-Lautrec, William Shatner, Charles M. Shultz, Thomas L. Friedman and my great-grandfather, after whom I am named.
I've already met God, so that's why He's not on this list ; )
