Richard Delamar started out like many others aspiring to work in the music industry. At age ten he began tinkering with his dual cassette deck, making loops and overdubs of current dance and rap tracks. At 18 he began to DJ at raves and clubs in his native Alberta and bought his first keyboard. The electronic tracks that Richard produced lead him to DJ at gigs in Canada’s biggest cities. He came to Toronto in 2003 and began a series of collaborations and remixes with a number of local independent musicians.
By 2006, after years of trying to make heartfelt dance music, Richard realized he was in the wrong genre. “Being away from home made me miss country music, so I started producing my own music the only way I knew how, with keyboards and samplers.” Richard posted his independently-produced electronic country music on his myspace page which quickly caught the attention of songwriter/producer Dean Miller, son of country legend Roger Miller.
Delamar worked tirelessly for six months to enable him to fly to Nashville and record with Miller, who enlisted the talents of some of country music’s most notable session players. Among the musicians were Smith Curry (who has worked with Randy Travis, Kid Rock and even Erasure); Rob Hajacos (Shania Twain, Trisha Yearwood, Fleetwood Mac), and JT Corenflos (Dwight Yoakam, Bob Seger, Terri Clark, Gretchen Wilson).
In addition to the Nashville recordings, Delamar’s forthcoming album will feature some self-produced tracks. Among them is “Smack A Hippie,” a hilarious collaboration with award-winning fiddler Ashley MacIsaac. Richard has also co-written and produced songs for country crooner Mark Jacob, a current staple on Canadian radio. Bringing a new twist to country music, he’s working on what he calls “honky-house” remixes for Toronto’s alt-country heroes $100 and New York performance art troupe Daisy Spurs.
Delamar’s own productions, released under the Strong Like Bull pseudonym, present an alternative/electronic spin on the traditional country sound, all the while maintaining a marketable pop sensibility. It’s not unusual considering he grew up with parents who listened to country and rock, and that among his own influences he cites Dwight Yoakam, Deee-lite, Hank Williams, Fatboy Slim, the Carter Family and the KLF.
Richard Delamar’s sound is uniquely his, something borne of a deep love and appreciation for music.

I've been making play lists of the music I like most. Your is the most recent addition. It was a refreshing change to hear your music while I worked at my latest HD fractal animation. I wonder when you will have music for your electronica up. That should be cool too. I also liked the song "Smack a hippie" as two out of three of my older brothers are hippie wanna-be types.
