The Strudel Meisters German Band out of South Haven, Michigan, has created a unique style of the old time German “OOMPAH” sound. This has been achieved by careful selection of authentic German music and the extensive use of original arrangements written especially for the Strudel Meisters Band.
Among the repertoire are traditional German folk songs, polkas, waltzes, dances, and drinking songs. American polkas, waltzes, and popular oldies are also performed with a decidedly German flavor.
Since its conception in 1998, The Strudel Meisters have performed at several venues, such as summer concerts, dances, private parties and assisted living facilities in southwest Michigan and northern Indiana.
The cities of Niles and Allegan have enjoyed them many times as part of their summer concert series. The Paw Paw Wine Festival enjoys the way they liven up their beer tent area every year. The Strudel Meisters have been the featured band at the Notre Dame Okdomerfest for the past six years.
The Kapell Meister (band leader) is Karl Andrews who plays the Tuba and provides the “Oomph” for the Oompah music. The band consists of eleven other musicians including the vocalist (Cecilia Seabury) who was born and raised in Germany.
The band members are all from Southwest Michigan, (Allegan, Fennville, Pullman, South Haven, Covert, Paw Paw, St. Joseph, and Stevensville.) Instrumentation consists of 1 trumpet, 1 trumpet/baritone, 1 trombone/baritone, 4 clarinets, 1 accordion, 1 accordion/banjo, 1 tuba, 1 drummer, and a sound technician.
The Strudel Meisters have cut two CD’s titled “German Band Oompah Music” and “Auf Der Auto Bahn.
