STRYCHNINE SOUL reviews:
Review by Tony "Dio" Leonard of NC Scene.com and Rock Bottom Productions
STRYCHNINE SOUL: 3 song demo Hailing from Eastern North Carolina,
STRYCHNINE SOUL is comprised of several veterans of the NC local music scene. The band members have played in various Heavy Rock, Death Metal & Southern Rock bands. Together under the STRYCHNINE SOUL banner the band members have managed to tie together elements of all of their past projects & also bring in influences from many of their favorite Heavy acts as well. The band's first released recording is a 3 song demo. The music is very guitar heavy with complex drumming. The group incorporates the use of aggressive, graveled styled vocals mixed with clean styled singing parts as well. The disc charges straight out of the bull pit with a heavy hitting, in your face track dubbed "Spite". This tune has the hooks & grooves that reminds me of a SEVENDUST meets PRONG styled number. Next up, the guys slow things down a bit with the sort of GODSMACK-like "Believe". I dig the harmony guitar parts in this tune. Finally, the last track, which I would consider to be the "highlight" of this recording. The bombastic "Scrape It Away" is one kick ass piece of music very reminiscent of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. It's got that hard charging rhythm with those ZAKK WYLDE styled guitar "Squeals" & harmonies. If you're a fan of any of the aforementioned bands or if you just like your Metal straight forwardly brutal with a slight bit of melody thrown in for good measure, you'll want to give STRYCHNINE SOUL a listen. The band has been tearing up the local live scene as well, playing gigs throughout the region. I've caught them several times recently & I can honestly say they can hold their own on any stage, whether it be playing up against other local unsigned acts or onstage with a national. If you haven't yet heard of STRYCHNINE SOUL, you will in the near future.
