With all five of Stryk Nine's members born and living in MA you could still probably say they are more based out of the Providence, RI scene. They played their first shows there over 8 years ago when the band first began in 2000. The two original members Matty Colon & Justin Murphy try and reinvent their sound for every album so along with that come many member changes, However over the past 2 years they have built one of the most solid lineups to date. Featuring Keyboardist: Jim Morel (Neo-Messiah, EKM) and drummer: Artie Carvalo (Nerve Damage). They also have tacked on good friend Jeremy Kaplan to play live Samples and Backing Vox. After almost a year long search Stryk Nine finally found a great new Bass player Joe Stanley formally of the local act Fatechange. Stryk Nine is finally complete and ready to take on the world again.
Stryk Nine goes way back to the year 2000 when they began as children at the time the biggest bands in metal were Korn and Limp Bizkit, then over the years have changed from bands like Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall this was a huge reason Stryk Nine decided to stay as far away from the radio and MTV while writing their music. While it may not be everyones cup of tea it incorporates many things that everyone can appreciate. The instruments they use range from ESP guitars and double bass to kazoos and bongos to keyboards and samplers to screaming and melodic singing. So it is hard for S9 to fit in to these so called "Scene's" so they try to go their own way when it comes to writing original music.
Stryk Nine has done many national cross country tours playing in the following states MA, NH, RI, NY, VA, GA, FL, IL, MI, NC, SC, CT, MD, KY, and many more. They have toured alongside up and coming signed acts like Diecast, Thy Will Be Done, Ekotren, Crossbreed, Joey Belladonna, Q, Dead by Wednesday, Rising Up Angry, and endless others.
Stryk Nine has been hard at work on a brand new cd almost 2 years in the making called "The Obstacle of Symmetry" due out 2008. This album is being Produced, Engineered and Mixed by Rob Gil who also worked on the following bands Albums: Throwdown, Hatebreed, Aerosmith, & more. Gil has challenged Stryk Nine to go places they never thought possible before and has revamped their whole sound making it the most powerful and intricate Stryk Nine has ever played, because of the way Gil has been challenging S9 they have decided to keep going in and out of the studio to write and re-write the songs for the upcoming epic. The project is going to be mastered by Jay Frigolletto who has mastered acts like: Killswitch Engage, Alice in Chains, and many others. It promises to be a very serious release out of the local metal scene in Massachusetts in 2008. Keep checking back for updates and thanks for believing in the scene!!!!
