We are influenced by everyone around us. Everything we hear, everything we do, everything we want, everything we need. We can't help but feel it all.
Sounds Like
The music created by the people involved with "Family Business" is a variety of music types ranging from historic American roots music to modern day classics and almost everything in between. Actually, it is quite impossible to label it any one particular kind. A forty year age spread of musicians, singers, and songwriters is the most contributing factor in the variety, and an interest in most all genres of music that is played together and shared. Much of it having been recorded at "Studio Six", an amateur recording and music studio owned and operated by one of the members, Steve Shields. Family Business is more of a 'heading' in the report, with subtitles of people and groups making up the body of the message. Groups like "Midwest Madness" and "Some Kinda Syndrome" have their own special flavors and are made up of different combinations of people that also appear in the writings and performances of the main Family Business consortium. The writing team of Steve Shields and Peyton Adair collaborating on tunes on a regular basis, some of which were rhythmed many years in the past, yet taking new shape and form today. Recently joined by Chily Chandler, a well rounded musician, singer, songwriter who has brought forth new concepts to the primarily acoustic based renditions of their creations. The only thing common about all of this is that it is mostly made up of family and friends. The same family and friends that spend time together, jam together, camp together, and live life to it's fullest. The music experience here is more for personal enjoyment than it is for pecuniary reasons. The best way to truly experience Family Business is to be a part of it. Which is easy enough to do if you stop by at a festival or a jam to lend an ear or maybe join in and pick a bit. You'll find that our music is made for fun, so we can all enjoy being ourselves. There is no greater happiness than to be with family and friends in music and in love. Come by and join us.
Hello, my name is Steve Shields. I am very much responsible for the creation of Family Business. Family Business is a consortium of friends and family (3 of my sons) having fun with music and the making, recording, sharing, and creating of such in and out of the Studio. We are what is happening at Studio Six Studio and usually hang out together at the lake and the big Bluegrass Festival in Winfield each year. It had been said many times before 'what should we call ourselves' and Family Business is basically a metaphor to explain that we have many reasons to be together. Music is just one of them. We have made three CD's as Family Business and all of us have been working on original songs and music that you are listening to right now on this band page.Playing for a party on the deck of the Yacht Club at Cheney LakePlaying music in camp at Winfield 2003Playing on Stage 5 at the Walnut Valley Festival 2009Doing a show on the Fine Time Stage at WinfieldPlaying on Stage 4.75 in the Pecan GroveGoofing around in our usual wayTearless Sorrow
