stuhart & friends (though these recordings are entirely me - except for Close My Eyes)
Influences
That's a tough one.....I like so many different artists though I'm not aware of how much they influence me, if at all. I've found myself strumming away on a what I think is a new song to realise I'm playing somebody elses....so I guess subconsciously I'm being influenced all the time. Ones that I can point to though are the likes of Radiohead, Coldplay, The Eagles, Matchbox 20, David Gray, John Mayer......my mind has gone blank.....I'll come back to that....eventually.
I've been playing guitar for so many years now I really should be better than I am.....but I've always said that you don't have to be the world's greatest musician to write good songs. So all I need to do now is write some good songs. :o)
I started off in a rock band at school in Aberdeen playing rhythm guitar and singing backing vocals, but even then my songwriting was very melodic and ballad-like. Not much has changed over the years as I still seem utterly incapable or writing a happy song though if you get to know me you'll learn I'm anything but miserable....most of the time.
Since moving down to England I've played off and on in bands and quite recently I was guitarist and singer in a band gloriously named Call Sign Panda (named after my now sadly departed Fiat Panda) - check out Close My Eyes which is a home recording we made a couple of years back - but a move to London meant that I bid farwell to them and set out into the world on my own again. CSP subsequently changed their name to The Yearning - check out their link below. I rejoined after a year or so following a move back to Reading and I learned how to play rock properly. Almost. Though once again I am off on my travels back up to Aberdeen so my newly rediscovered soul of rock will have another holiday until I either find another band there or maybe start my own. Who knows? Either way I'll have more time to devote to writing some more of my own acoustic stuff. And about time too.
And not only that I'm taking part, for the second year running, in the Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon, so please spare a minute to visit my fundraising page if only to laugh at me. Thanks.
Good to see I finally made into yer top mates mate, you've been my number 1 for pretty much ever you know ;-) Good to see ya last saturday, and good luck for Sunday you crazy fool - I'll be thinking of you through my hangover xx
My dear friend, I can hardly describe how much I am missing you. I have just returned from another Nelson evening, many of the same faces and some new. I was sitting with Rowan and Gill chewing the cud. Your name, as it often does, cropped up. You are never far from our thoughts. I hope you are ok up North, but if you do get the chance to come south let me know, I have much to tell you and email, text, facebook, myspace and phone are not really good enough. In the meantime, if I get the chance to travel Aberdeen way (which may happen as Amanda sometimes gets night stops there) I will let you know. Wishing you the very best, Tim
And Happy Easter to you! I'm heading to Houston. Don't you have a big gig this weekend??? Or did I miss that? If not, I hope it's great! If I did, then I hope it went well...
hello mister.
had a great time at the gig last night, even if only for a bit of a laugh and a good night out with friends.
talking of friends, I'm such a good mate, I added the longest mile to my profile... bejaysus, you'll have to buy me a pint now! ;-)
Looking forward to seeing you at Re-Play at the Nelson on Easter Saturday. I have programmes 50p each let me know if you'd like me to post you a stack. Entry £5.00 on the day but tickets are available for surrey strings.
I'll be at the venue about 12 and hopefully free for sound checks if anyone wants one by about 1.00.
