Influences
The Beach Boys, The Go-Betweens, Wilco, Townes Van Zandt, Dave Maclean, The Meters, Billie Holiday, Robert Wyatt, The Band, Michael Marra, Fred Neil, Neil Young, The Left Banke, etc. My all-time favourite long-playing record is Veedon Fleece by Van Morrison. At the moment I'm listening to the new Fleet Foxes and Robert Forster albums an awful lot. The people who've influenced me the most are the folk I've played or sung with over the years. The ones who taught me without knowing they were doing so - Gus Glen, Toby Carter, Geoff Glen, Gary Brady, Gale Trippsmith, Steven Pearson, Martin Brown, Guy Whitby, Iain Barbour, Dave McKee, Paula McNally, Karen Craig, Matt Percival, Al Richardson, Kirsten Hammond, George Stott, Dave McManus, Bill Clift, Joe Wilkes, Mike Moran, Melanie Woods, Donald MacInnes, Bob Gregory, Lewis Fergusson, Nick Offer, Ronan Larvor and Stella Clifford, to name a few. As far as my outlook on life goes... that was principally formed by Charles M. Schulz. Another white American male, Kurt Vonnegut, had a profound effect in later, teenage years. Most recently, it's been my wife Moira who's been the biggest influence in the way I see things. Special mention goes to my talented songwriting friend, the prolific bastard Roy Henderson, who has recently given me the confidence to write again. Thank you Roy.
And last, but by no means least, this guy's a constant source of inspiration as well as being the best pal you could ask for. His name is Kirk Adams...
FIRSTLY, I'D LIKE TO SAY HOW MUCH IT PAINS ME THAT RUPERT MORLOCH* OWNS THIS SITE. MY LOATHING FOR HIM, HIS POLITICS, HIS BUSINESS EMPIRE AND HIS 'NEWS' CORPORATION KNOWS NO BOUNDS. HE IS THE SPAWN OF SATAN, SENT TO RUIN ALL THAT'S GOOD.
My name's Brian, I'm 40 years old and I live with my wife, Moira, and our 2 dogs in the town of Dumfries. I'll be recording an album (at home, using GarageBand) with my friends later this year. It's taking longer than planned due to geographical differences. I'm an ex-member of The Desirables, The Unfaithful Servants and The Unconscious Collective. I currently do a monthly night ('Brian Harris and Friends') at The Coach & Horses as well as playing covers in The Go Figures (previously known as The Homewreckers).
If you live in Dumfries or Edinburgh then pop along to one of our gigs and introduce yourself. We usually play in pubs that don't charge you to get in. Usually.
* This is an amalgam of the names, Murdoch, Morlock and Moloch. Will the defenders of the Dirty Digger please stop sending me messages telling me "if ur gona slag sum1 u shud get his name rite lol!!!" etc.?
I also do a show on radioASBO called 'Life of Brian'.

Brian! Had the best time ever the last two weeks. You and Miora are wonderful and we miss you already. The Coach and Horses gigs were great! You were a star and all the folks who sat in were tremendous and a lot of fun. We rocked at Paula and Dave's wedding and I'm looking forward to the next time already.
Hi Bri doesn't time fly. I'm a lazy guy so I've not said hi, so just to show i haven't died HI! Hope you're well and still producing good stuff. Please ignore all that shit and just accept this as a genuine enquiry.
Well i was gonna come down on thursday anyway man cos it's gonna be the only oppertunity i get to see your mates from america play so i'll speak to you then. Ta!
Ah excellent. I was just on kirks space and his tunes are excellent. I'm pretty busy these days but i could do a wee set on your thursday set if you haven't already got someone.
Hey Bri. How's things? We still on for friday this week? If so could you fly me some details or will i just show up at the usual time? All the best, Lewis.
Hi Bri Hows it going? I finally got the Dion album (had to order it) - brought back nice memories of a great night at the Coach. Hope all's good with you and Moira.
I hope you and Moira enjoyed your weekend in the wilds of Perthshire. I had a fantastic time on Friday. What a great pub and what a lovely bunch of folk.
Thank you again for your wonderful hospitality and for laying on the after hours police display team.
Ah Mr Brian you are a lovely man. We really should meet again for real quite soon before we both crumble away like lost temples of beauty in the jungle. God I've got a tongue as pretty as a ten cent floozy...lurvyabebe...D.
