The ever-evolving Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey continues its collaboration with producer Tae Meyulks with the new release "Lil' Tae Rides Again: Live!" The innovative process began when JFJO recorded a batch of tunes and asked Tae Meyulks to have his way with them. He cut them & spliced them into new forms and textures, essentially re-composing them in his own image. Now, the process takes a third step, as the Odyssey has taken Meyulks' creations and transcribed them for live performance, reinterpreting the reinterpretations, if you will. For fans of Lil' Tae Rides Again, it will be a revelation. For those who found themselves missing the hands-on JFJO sound in Lil' Tae, it will be the missing piece. Featuring new JFJO member, Peter Tomshany on acoustic & electric guitar; Reed Mathis on guitar, lap steel, and bass; Brian Haas on rhodes and moog-bass; and the ever-amazing Josh Raymer on drums.
During the spring of 2008, Lil' Tae went on the road. The new JFJO lineup took the stage night after night performing the album in its entirety, in the actual track order, complete with segues and incredible visuals by the Golden Child. This official live version was compiled and edited by the band, combining performances from Portland, Denver, and Tulsa. The result is a perfect companion to the studio CD, Lil' Tae Rides Again.
