Officially formed in October of 2000, Subject to Blackout started as a power trio rocking the streets of Youngstown, Ohio. Their story begins with two brothers: Aaron and Adam Davis of the Griggs Road Band. After breaking up with GRB, Aaron and Adam started undergrad at Youngstown State University and put up a flyer seeking a drummer to start a new band project. They were soon contacted by Tom Clark, a fellow YSU student and Marching Pride member. They met for the first time to jam at 387 Alameda Ave. and the musical chemistry was undeniable. Tom would soon move into the North-side residence to practice and be ready for gigging. After auditioning singers, the band would finally be complete with the addition of Wes McLaughlin, lead vocalist. The band would continue to play and gig in the Youngstown area until the Davis brothers finished with their undergrad degrees and moved back to their hometown of Jefferson. Wes moved back to East Liverpool and Tom stayed in Youngstown to pursue other bands. Years went by with no gigs and the Davis brothers moved to New York City to attend graduate school. Tom continued to keep in touch with the brothers and finally in September of 2006 moved to New York to pursue the band again. Getting things back on the right track in New York City, the band has reunited with Wes McLaughlin, and as of May 2007 will be gigging extensively in the North-East Ohio and surrounding Pennsylvania areas. Subject to Blackout is an undeniable rock act combining the heart and soul of flowing music with an on-stage energy unmatched by many local bands today.
