Band Reviews
RAVE MAGAZINE INFERNOFEST @ Step Inn March 08
Submission sets The Step Inn on fire with an assault of lightening quick riffs, chugging breakdowns and the odd Pantera style solo.
RAVE MAGAZINE AUSSIE DAY ASSUALT @ Rosies Live January 08
Submission open Club Phoenix’s Australia Day Assault with their highly rhythmic/no solos/claustrophobic-space-between-notes style, (all too common in Brismetal territory), but their fair enjoyment is setting a promising mark for them as performers. Most pleasing also is guitarist Michael Russell fretting a sharply pitched note and sliding with a descending tremolo pick, briefly mid-set.
Submission started out in 1999 and was formed by of a group of friends who all had a passion for metal. The sound has varied over the years starting off with a sound similar to Sepulture, which has taken on more melodic and grove elements, but still has the thrash styling of bands like Pantera and Fear Factory. The 5 piece outfit started doing gigs through the support of other bands who were also just starting out and mainly playing in the Ipswich area, or more recently in Brisbane. With the help of local promoters, Submission has played gigs with many big named Australian metal bands such as Frankenbok and Dreadnaught. The sound of the outfit is not just one style but many styles making it unique. The drumming style is thrash rhythm while the guitarists style is varied from Fear Factory and Strapping Young Lad through to Killswitch Engage and Soilwork. The vocals are also varied from old school Sepultura through to a high pitched vocal style similar to early In Flames. Submission has released two CDs, Spineless in 2002 and Forever the Struggle in 2004. Spineless was recorded at Grevillia Studios and Forever the Struggle was recorded at studio Anderdabeers with both albums distributed at local music stores by the band. In 2002, Submission made it into the Queendsland Rock Awards Finals, being one of the 20 remaining bands from what begun as 200. While they did not win, it was quite an achievment for a metal band to go so far in the competition. The goal of Submission is to play as many live performances to as many people as possible with their passion for providing a great high energy show every time they are on stage.
Submission hope to see you at a gig soon!

Hyperkinetic furious thrashers Happy Camper put on another face melting show with their new Drummer ‘Spikenstein’ (Violent Green) and Bass player Kent Haines (Hollow/Minus Life). Joining them are Face Of Mutiny (ex-Candy Pain), playing straight up headbanging moshalicious riffs and 8 piece experimental death/noise/industrial terrorists The Sever Project. As always, DJ Hoops will be spinning metal tunes between bands, Satan’s Bar & Grill will be serving up devilishly good cheap meals from 8-10pm and entry is FREE.
