SUBSonik was an hour-long weekly podcast presented by Dave Hamer and Matt Lee bringing you the best new music coming out of Staffordshire and Cheshire.
It all came to an end in October 2009 and this is the reason why:-
We've spent more than 12 years playing in bands, going to gigs, supporting the scene around Stoke, Staffs and Cheshire. Over the last 4 years that’s also been in the guise of either BBC SUBCulture and SUBSonik.
We don’t have the time, and finances to continue ‘Sonik as we want to, and the thing is we wanna spend the time we do have hanging out and making our own music, actually contributing to the very scene we’ve been backing.
In that last 4 years, we’ve met some amazing people and made some new friends who will be mates for life. If you’ve ever played a session for us, sent us a tune, invited us to a gig, bought us a beer, or generally appreciated the show – big love and thanks goes out to you. It’s been a blast, but as they say all good things must come to an end.

SUBSONIK MISSION STATEMENT: (Courtesy of the genius that was/is John Peel):
It is obvious that disc jockeys, as a class, are essentially parasitic. We are, with lamentably few exceptions, neither creative or productive. We have, however, manipulated the creations of others (records) to provide ourselves with reputations as arbiters of public taste.
We believe very much in radio as a medium of tragically unrealised possibilities and also in the music we play.
Therefore accepting the falsness of our own precarious position, we will do whatever we can, wherever we can to publicise the good things we hear around us) These musicians have made you aware of, and appreciative of, their music - not us

'tis a shame u guys had to stop :( was always amusing and we really appreciated the show for ourselves as a band and the exposure it gave to others as well, through the subculture and subsonik days eXopilots

"One of the most visionary artists in the world today." - Drowned In Sound
Puts so much heart and soul into every verse, chorus and middle eight that you need a defibrillator... this is not merely an excellent record, it's a manifesto." - Artrocker
fat cats allows promotors, bands and djs alike to put there own stamp on what they think will make a great night out. Fair enough, the bar can be a bit pricey, but at least it keeps out the lowts and knobheads. Ive never seen an ounce of trouble there. At least fat cats (steve) give the opportunity to try out new things like wrongpop and octopus and hip-hop nights etc aswell as numerous band nights instead of the usual same old crap at other venues where the same music is played every week and dare not change the formula. For that opportunity, i am eternally greatful! We are well into our 2nd year as a night and the joy of having someone come to me and say 'wow, i never knew about this, its great' makes me so happy! If its not somebodys cup of tea, its always the next persons, to have alternatives from 'alternative' nights can only be healthy! :-)
