Clarence and Quinn
Clarence plays guitar, writes poetry, and creates progressions and lyrics
Quinn sequences synthesizers, drums, and other instruments, and plays guitar.
Substance17 was formed in the basement of a southeast Portland house, when Clarence and Quinn started throwing sounds together.
When we meet up, we pull out guitars, play some new melodies and progressions, laugh, listen to records, then sit down.
During the real "creation" process we record riffs from guitar and keyboard, then tweak virtual synthesizers till we get a sound we agree on, and some sort of rythm and throw it into the mix.
It's a little minimalist, in a very slow and careful way.
