SUBTLE HINTS IS Sanna - vocals, Eddie Mick - guitar / piano / synth / bass, Rob Bernas - guitar, Hugo Fernandes - drums WITH GUESTS Andy Kravitz - drums / engineering / production, Stephen LaMonica - bass on "Holding Onto Hope" and "Never Coming Back To You".
Subtle Hints is the musical expression of vocalist Sanna, guitarist Rob Bernas and guitarist / keyboardist Ed Mick. Their brand of pop / rock is a textured soundtrack of human emotion. The band follows a simple writing philosophy - one that is at the heart of all good pop music - Subtle Hints not only wants you to feel their music, they want you to sing along.
Early 2009 brings the release of Subtle Hints’ self titled EP recorded with Grammy winner Andy Kravitz (Rolling Stones, James Taylor, Imogen Heap) who produced, engineered and played drums on the EP. Ed Mick’s keys create atmosphere to support the infectious musical hooks created by himself and Rob Bernas, as Sanna’s lyrics range from anthemic cries for hope and inspiration, to deeply personal admissions of the stark realities we face in daily life. “I wanted to write about things we can all relate to on a basic emotional level…our hopes, fears, triumphs, defeats and most importantly the perseverance of the human spirit”, says the singer.
Along side the EP, the band will premier their first music video, the lilting “Carry On & Fade Away”. The video, directed by documentary filmmaker Francesco D. Muto, is part performance footage and part short story following the lovelorn lyrics of it’s accompanying track.
Sanna, Rob Bernas and Ed Mick began this musical journey together in 2006 as part of the band Tabloid Society. They recorded their “Insatiable” EP with acclaimed local producer Brian McTear and played the Philadelphia area’s A Rooms including: the Trocadero Theater, The Khyber and the Northstar. Line up changes lead to a brief hiatus, but the trio re-emerged in 2008 with a more defined sound and a new name, Subtle Hints. Over the past year, in between recording sessions, the band has played the Dewey Beach Music Conference and performed live on Radio Volta.
“Here’s a subtle hint,” remarks producer Andy Kravitz. “What has three pieces and sounds like a million bucks?” Subtle Hints has a fresh sound based on the foundation of solid pop songwriting. Subtle Hints is ready to undeniably engage the music industry.
