Those songs that creep into the back of your head and then thrust themselves around your spinal chord like a double-helix until you feel posessed with the weight of nothingness. In other words any thing with real heart and grace.
Neye Benziyor?
Everything you've ever been seduced by now giving birth to something new.
Sudden Anthem's self-titled debut album was recorded at Portland's renowned Type Foundry Studio (Spoon, The Decemberists, M. Ward). Recorded onto the warm sound of analog, Sudden Anthem has created a modern-vintage progressive rock album that weaves the styles of two prolific Portland songwriters into a unified sound.
Led by the contrastive but complimentary songs of Hunter Paye and Joshua Rivera, each is delivered with fire, youth, and an intensity that is immediate and hopeful. The album itself reminds one of treasures found while visiting the extreme highs and lows life has to offer.
With Stefan Andrews on Bass and Samuel Dyer on drums, the band also features the songs of Jonah Willbach.
Album contributions from Anna Fritz on cello (The Portland Cello Project), Asher Fulero on Keys (Surrounded by Ninjas, The Everyone Orchestra), Lenny G. Watson on saxophone (Lord Loves a Workingman), and Annalisa Tornfelt on violin (Celilo, The Woolwines).
Four vocalists push harmonies and octaves over an emotive lead vocal while song subjects sway from 'The Good Fight' to 'Watering the Moon.' Mandolin accentuates the counter-melody while the rhythm section holds their orchestrated posture.
'Comprehension' hit's slow and heavy with: "You speak of faith, but you act like sand, sifting through the fingers of the hands of man; You speak of love, but you can barely stand, to be a part of something you don't understand."
'The Circus & The Sea' calls out: "Throw down your whip and let your lion run the show, let your tiger take the wheel, let your bear claws grow: 'Tame' is the name of the shackles I've known."
And so here in the belly of times where lyrical simplicity and a lack of depth seem so often rewarded, Sudden Anthem has recorded an album of honest and untamed emotion.

You guys played at the Eastburn Back on New Year's Eve. Was wondering if you'd like to play our annual Halloween party next month on Saturday 10/31. We'd love to have you back. Let me know either way at www.eastburn.com.
wussup? I have to be brief. I am shooting a feature length film over the next month and a half called "The Corners" We are having a fund raiser party for it at Kelly's Olympian next Wednesday (Sept. 16) and would love to see you there. It starts at 7:30 with screenings of unreleased episodes of my series "The Free Box" then a screening of "Winona" -a short written and directed by the writer of "The Corners". Then "Stella Grace", Portland's premier trip hop band takes the stage followed by a DJ set from "Buster Douglas". It's gonna be a hoot and a great place to network with a variety of artists from all mediums in Portland. Free with a suggested donation of $5-$500. See you there. -Jon
