The pain of addiction, war, violence, and dementia.
It started in 2004 in the small community of Elk Creek, Virginia. Darren Shepherd (Vocals/Guitar) and bassist Danny Delp decided that it was time to pick up and start a new band after the sudden demise of their old band, 2 Minute Warning. They called on Darren's brother, Greg (drums), and guitarist Danny Taylor to join them in creating some of the most brutal, yet beautiful music that has ever came from the Southwest Virginia music scene. The area is mainly known for bluegrass and old time music, which made a tough crowd to play for when it comes to hardcore music. However, this didn't phase Suddenly Silence. In the summer of 2004, they released their first album titles "Reinvention", which birthed hits such as "Love Letters and Painkillers" and "Stradivarius"; both of which peaked in the top 5 on Soundclick.com. The band played extensively in Virginia as well as North Carolina and Tennessee, and in the Summer of 2005 they released "Emo Girl"; a 5 song EP which gave their fans a taste of their newer, heavier sound. The attention drawn by tracks such as "Pictures Were Made To Burn" and "Scared of Thunder" gave the audience a whole new outlook on Suddenly Silence. The band did a handful of dates in Virginia promoting the EP, and decided to enter the studio yet again in November of 2005 to start the long process of recording their most aggressive CD titled "A Simple Device". They called upon local producer/engineer/musician Tim "Smurf" Parks to work his magic on their talents and envoke the best sounding record the band has ever done. "A Simple Device" explores the human mind and takes a look at what makes us all who we are. The CD landed them great reviews, and have helped them become one of the most respected metal/hardcore bands in Southwest Virginia. In January 2007, things took another unexpected turn for the band when original guitarist Danny Taylor announced that he was leaving the band to pursue other musical interests. Although they were stunned by the loss of their long-time bandmate, the remaining members decided to find someone else who could fill the position. In February, Scott Spencer, formerly of the band Half Broke, took the reigns of guitarist. By combining outstanding musicianship, a simply dazzling and energetic live show, and the drive to go further, Suddenly Silence has the potential to be one of the best hardcore bands to hit the scene in a long time. Not bad for a few guys from the country. This is a band that will leave your ears bleeding, your heart pounding, and your neck sore. Help spread the Silence...
