Sig "Daddy" Nordskog: Upright & Electric Bass, Vocals
Kyle "The Beat Monster" Bonderson: Drums/Percusion
KRISTEN FREYJA SOLBERG:
With thoughtful attention to phrasing & timing, the sweet yet seductive vocals of Kristen Freyja Solberg evoke emotion & recall the great "girl singers" of a lost generation. It is not surprising to learn that hers is an impressive musical lineage. Father, internationally acclaimed Jazz pianist Charles Solberg, won the public admiration of Bob Dylan, while Uncle, James Solberg, received a Handy Award, the Grammy of the Blues industry, for which B.B. King had also been nominated. Without a trace of pretense, she went on to become a prolific lyricist, melodic songstress, accomplished vocalist, & musician in her own right. Through her intriguing lyrics & captivating vocals, she expresses an experience & sensitivity beyond her years. She has the ability to draw out pure vocals, seemingly from the soles of her shoes, to float over the top of an edgy tune, she’s smooth when that laid back groove beckons, & delivers ballads with an accessible stage presence & vulnerability, capable of inviting perfect strangers to confide.
NICK HALL:
This gifted, intuitive guitarist & composer has given rise to a comprehensive body of original work. Drawing upon musical influences of very wide breadth, his transcendent style is compelling & enticing, rich with sweet acoustic lines, gritty blues rifs & everything in between. He has been affected, inspired, & swayed by artists such as The Beatles, The Stones, Django Reinhardt, Stephan Grapelli, Jeff Beck, Tom Waits, Thelonious Monk, Samuel Barber, Bob Dylan, Daniel Lanois, & Hank Williams. Heavily impressed by a large family saturated with musical talent, a natural insight & creative discernment seems to have been sewn into every fiber of his being. As he treads fearlessly into the realm of live, improvisational departures, he keeps the audience - & the rest of the band - on their toes, captive to the whims of his artistic genius.
SIGURD NORDSKOG:
Affectionately known as “Sig Daddy” to many adoring admirers, Sigurd Nordskog is an accomplished musician & composer, finely steeped in the influences of Blues, R & B, Jazz, Folk, & full tilt Rock-n-Roll. Intrinsically rooted in unadulterated groove, with an inherent sense of musicality, it comes as no surprise that his life long journey as a musician began at the tender age of five. First & foremost a gifted guitarist, pianist, singer, & songwriter, his mastery of multiple instruments & myriad genres lends wisdom & depth to every aspect of this ensemble. A presence to behold, hearts melt as he milks the soul out of that big blond upright bass. Our “Sig Daddy” is endowed with the phenomenal ability to draw out the thickest of low notes, as most bassists dare not dream.
KYLE BONDERSON:
Rivaled only by his unparalleled posture is his innate ability to interject the most suitable of rhythm. This is a drummer/percussionist with the experience of playing everything from Folk to Blues, Rock to Jazz, Punk to World Music, & Electronica to Easy Listening. His command of multiple cadences lends the perfect mood & tenor to the band’s original work. Sleek & stylish, Kyle Bonderson delivers an astonishing & unexpected “ass kicking” (pardon me, but there are no other words) with the precision of a master sashimi chef. He knows exactly when to bring out the subtle flavors of an easy going tune or when to infuse your palate with some flamin’ wasabi!
SUEDE BABY is an acoustic/electric combo of four pieces; The pure, sultry vocals & thoughtful lyrics of Kristen Freyja Solberg & the exceptional guitar work of Nick Hall weave the front end of this ensemble. The two compose the roots of their original music, while Kyle Bonderson on drums & Sigurd (Sig Daddy) Nordskog on bass round out the groovin' backbone. Sophisticated yet accesible, original music, inspired by Jazz standards, R&B, roots, & funkified rock, peppered with familiar covers of the same genres, Suede Baby serves up a healthy portion of delicious groove. The charming chemistry, between the foursome, both artistically &
personally, is rare & makes for a mind-altering experience. At least for an hour or two, all appears to be well with the world.
How's Sunday night going? Just letting you know I'm taking on a few more projects this summer and it would be awesome to work with you guys. So if you need any Recording, Live Sound or Producing, be sure to let me know.
I love it! I love it! Have I mentioned that I love it?! I've been driving around listening to it all day! I may never park my car and go inside! Thanks for putting the 1000 watts of funkified fun in my day...your CD is deep, good groove medicine.
Thanks, Kristen! Isn't yours coming up one of these days too?? Just got back from the Boundary Waters so I'm exhausted and of course full of bruises! And, yes, I fell out of the canoe...but only once. It is as beautiful as ever up there...
