I've been training for over 20 years. Had several setbacks, particularly with breathing and intonation. But it's getting there.
I love singing classical and enjoy both large choral pieces and church music set for smaller, chamber choirs.
I want to perform 'jazz' numbers from the '30s and '40s of the twentieth century. Cole Porter's lyrics are clever and insightful, but there are lots of other songwriters out there too.
My father loved to sing. I still recall a lot of his old favourites. He enjoyed Frank Sinatra's songs, but his real hero was Nat King Cole.
Personally, I don't think you can beat Billie Holliday or Shirley Horn for putting over a song. Ella Fitzgerald was so great and prolific a singer that you can miss just how very good she was.
I aim to follow in those footsteps. I sang my first recital last year and have performed in amateur shows and charity venues. Performance brings out the best in me.
