I love Elton John and Bette Midler, anything you can actually "sing" with. I like hard rock stuff, but when I'm in the mood for it. Nothing beats a little Pantera when you need to blow off some steam.
Movies
I love chick flicks and 80's movies. I really love Better Off Dead, Beaches, and Steel Magnolias. The first time I saw Steel Magnolias was at my friend Amy's house - I cried so hard that I hyperventilated, and I loved every second of it.
Television
I love American Idol - it's the only show that I actually force my family to turn the Nickelodeon off for. I also enjoy Extreme Makeover Home edition, and the Fit Club.
Books
I love self help books, and books about making money and entrepreneurship. I also seem to be reading lots of kids books lately with my son. We've been reading the Ronald Dahl Wonka books, and have just started reading Charlotte's Web with him as well. (He's the brightest danged four year old you'll ever see!)
Heroes
Oprah - not because she made a bunch of money, but because she does actual meaningful work every day that she enjoys and still takes time to really make a difference in the world. She's aware of her power and uses it for good.
Also George Lucas. He may have possibly created the most perfect job ever for himself.
About me: I'm a super busy mom and wife, with a good career and family. I'm adventurous and fun, and am married to an outgoing techno junkie. I've got a messy house, a messy car, and a messy desk. But I also take time to have fun with my kids, family, and co-workers. I'm basically interested in pursuing "self-actualization" types of activities, which should tell you a lot about me - I'm in a stable and happy home and career, but am continuously seeking ways to make a difference in the world, and do what it is I'm called to do, once I figure it out. I have finally learned, that you can make a difference in the world with just small things. You don't have to be rich or in some big powerful position to do Good. : )
Who I'd like to meet: a) Not just meet, but actually talk to Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates. They're both, wildly rich but choose to do things that make a difference in the world.
b) The guy who wrote "What Color is your Rainbow?" I'd love for him to do a comprehensive psychoanalysis (or whatever) session on me to find out what kind of career I'm REALLY supposed to have.
c) George Lucas. Not for me, but for my husband. I'd hook him and George up so Rob could have his fantasy job, which is basically doing anything George wanted him to.
d) Some dumb lottery winner, so he could gimme some money.
I KNOW!!! All the clothes fitting better is like a miracle because I, at least, ate so much more while training. Size 14s? GOOD FOR YOU!! And I'm only this______ jealous because you really worked hard.
Mason doing the Kid's Marathon is so cool. I never heard of that but it looks like you'll have someone to do your future walking with you. I love walking because (wink) it's easy!
Good on Rob doing the 5k! Oh I wanted to send you a link to the "run with the horses". You run around Balmoral Race Track grounds....well I walk, and the last lap you run with the horses who are warming up for the races. I think this is the first year they've ever done that. Pretty cool, eh?
I wrote you the longest message yesterday, when someone walked up to this desk and I hit the wrong button!
As you may have guessed I will not make the walk this year. I see my oncologist on April 1, yes April Fool's day, to discuss radiation. I already take 5 minutes longer to walk a half a mile, haha. Buddy and I discussed leaving Friday to drive there and leaving Sunday to get home....but I think radiation will have begun before that.
I REALLY hope you do this. There are so few natural highs in life and this is a good one. And the medal is good too!!! I have a pipe dream to do the big one next year so we'll have to train even earlier. I am going for a 5k on June 9th. It is a run but they allow 16 minute miles. Radiation should end in May so that "Run with the horses 5K" is my next goal. There's a 3 mile fun walk on Mother's Day but I don't know. It's for breast cancer...maybe there is one near you. It used to be the Y-Me walk but they changed the name.
Tell my big-hearted nephew not to do the half if he has not properly trained. He will get injured. He can make a goal for next year. Thank God there has always been a next year so far!
Get lots of pictures cuz I can't wait to see them. Uncle Buddy says every time I saw him in another area with the camera I started running. Seriously, that was the only times I ran. Be sure to run through the final counter because that's where they snap your official finisher's picture...yay!!!!
Funny story.. I bought Mason a shirt and hat for Christmas then decided against sending when I saw the print closer (skulls, etc.) so it has been sitting around here. Well Tony decides to put it on Will right before church on Sunday. Of course, Will is swimming in the thing. But he was cute, I said who are your friends and he said, "Mason is my buddy". What a crack up.
Hi, Susan. How are you doing? I'm thinking you moved to FB too. I kept leaving messages for a bud of mine then realized mine were the last 20 messages : - ) Hope all is well hon.
Yesterday Aunt Peg forced me to do a 4-mile hike with her. The trail was snow packed with those little bumps...all uneven terrain for 4 miles. I was breaking in a pair of new walking shoes. The back of my pretty, new shoe is blood soaked from the blister that grew and burst on my jaunt. Ouch!!!
YIkes!!! I walked 30 minutes Monday and Wednesday. Yesterday was 2 miles (30 minutes, duh), danced in the bedroom 30 minutes Tuesday and blew off the 30 minute pilate tape on Friday. I didn't lose an ounce but had 2 angry whoppers and other bad stuff all week. Training makes me starve.
Use the muscle theory for the temporary gain. I bet your clothes don't feel tight from the gain. We are toning!!
I'm doing the Bingham training so I get a big break....my training starts this Monday instead of Sunday! I remember cheating last time I trained but I always did the long walk days. Aunt Peg did the 10 mile day with me (the longest in Bingham training). We got in the car and drove across the street to the Hostess/Wonder thrift shop and bought a box of chocodiles. Remember those chocolate covered twinkies? They don't make them any more. I hope I can find something else! There is still 6 inches of snow here but it is above zero today so things are looking up. When you have a chance can you let me know if the course is concrete or asphalt?
4mph is a great pace but since I did it at 51 in 3hrs9, I think you are way underestimating yourself. When you train you get a lot faster just to get it over with on a Saturday. Old Susan...God she would hate that!... will probably be at 4mph if she even does it. You will be moving ahead.
We will wonder where our jiggle went and that is the silver ling to training! Yay!
