關於我: This account is for my Second Life, where I am a piano craftsman, composer and scripter. Sue Stonebender is the name of my avatar within the Second Life community, though my real name is indeed Sue.
Much of my "first life" bleeds into the second, the former being driven by real world community capacity building, social justice and advocacy for kids at risk. I am a journalist with Canada's national radio and television network, and a community technology strategist globally. Africa is at the core of much of my outreach, including a focus on finding innovative ways of applying technology to empower women and children. My current efforts focus is on combating the effects of extreme poverty (hunger, disease due to a lack of potable water and vaccines, child trafficking, AIDs) through technology-empowered innovations; child soliders; empowering children to change the course of AIDS through programs like Grassroot soccer; women's empowerment groups (such as Marcia Odell's WORTH program and Christina Jordan's LiA program); and also in working with young teachers to reclaim and rebuild schools and education in Darfur, Sudan.
To learn more about the things I'm passionate about, click the "Videos" tab beneath my pic, then choose the "My Favourites" link. I've included a few directly below here to make it easier to connect with what I find important ...
"We cannot change the past, but we can change our attitude toward it.
Uproot guilt and plant forgiveness. Tear out arrogance and seed humility.
Exchange love for hate --- thereby, making the present comfortable and the future promising."
-- Maya Angelou.
To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson.
