About me:
About Suffolk Songwriters:

Next recommended event is on Sunday 6th July in the 'Grapevine Acoustic session' tent as part of music day, Christchurch park, Ipswich. see below for details

‘Suffolk songwriters’ is a loose collection of people interested in encouraging and promoting local song-writing talent in our corner of the UK by :-

1. Running a regular ‘open mic’ session in Ipswich for songwriters to perform their material to a supportive and attentive audience

2. Organising showcase appearances at local events such as Ipswich ‘music in the park’

3. Anything else we think of .. perhaps even a tour to Norfolk !

All the interesting stuff happens on our normal web home www.suffolksongwriters.co.uk (updated 22nd June)
but we are here on 'myspace' too because it seems you are considered to be some type of hi-tech leper if you don't have a myspace site nowadays. (And don't get me started on facebook)

Frankly I don't like myspace - its run by people I don't like or trust, its unreliable, slow, and can become an exercise in getting lots of hits rather than actually communicating anything, but that's just me)

NEWS 22nd June 2008

Important new announcement.

We are not hosting any regular open-mic nights in July.

Instead :-

1. Andy will be hosting all day at the 'Grapevine Acoustic Session' tent as part of Ipswich music day (Sunday 6th July), Christchurch park, Ipswich. All are welcome to perform, The grapevine people don't want anything pre-booked before the day, but you can just turn up and book a slot on a 'first come first served' basis from from about 10.30/11 ish on the morning of the 6th. (Performances happen somewhat later)

2. We'll be running an all day open-mic and showcase event at the Steamboat tavern on Saturday 19th July. Contact us now if you fancy it so we can sort out who plays when. (We'll have an indoor and outdoor stage and flip between them)

August sees us returning to the our regular 1st and 3rd Thursday night, but also we are running an event in association with the new Wolsey theatre on Friday 29th August. Full details of this to follow.

NEWS 2008

From next month we'll be calling the Steamboat Tavern Ipswich our home on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month.

Under landlady Val, the Steamboat has been the real home of original music in Ipswich over many years, and we are delighted to be able to add Suffolk Songwriters to the Steamboats regular line up.

Details at www.suffolksongwriters.co.uk as ever.

See the main www.suffolksongwriters.co.uk site for more details.

Who I'd like to meet:

.. more local songwriters.

Suffolk Songwriters is a fortnightly event run in Ipswich for local songwriters. It gives them a chance to air their songs in a friendly environment. Its usually acoustic in nature, and the talent in this corner of the UK is outstanding.
Its a night that I hosted and organised for over 5 years, and I loved every minute. Before me the founder, Tony Shevlin, ran it for 2 and half years. After me, Andy Heasman took it over, and has just taken it to its 10th anniversary.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SSW!!!
I went to the anniversary night and I was pleased to see its still busy and thriving with respectful musicians. Long may it continue.

Hmmm, on a scale of 1 to 10 how discerning do you have to be to rated as discerning, I mean a score of one would probably not be very discerning at all but an 8 for example is pretty damn discerning but is it enough? If 8 is enough how about 7?
Lee
