Sugar Babe's interest in music is paired by her involvement with fashion.
She started designing garments in her mother’s atelier in Pula, Croatia, at the age of 6. In 1991 she moved to Italy, where she studied French, English and Russian, continuing to design and make clothes for everyday life and for the stage. In 1999 she met a fashion designer Pierluigi Voltolina and the Riviera PR king Principe Maurice, who proposed her to participate to a fashion competition in Rimini in 2000. She made a fashion show with her band on the catwalk and won a price as best young fashion designer.
She decides to make her own label called Sugarbabe.org – a mix of fashion, music and multimedia arts. In 2004 she opened a shop in Bologna, in Via San Felice, in partnership with DJ Omnidrive.
Her work has been shown in many fashion and life style magazines, such as Vogue Italia, Sportswear International, D di Repubblica, Collezioni Edge and others.
She exhibited at Bread and Butter Barcelona and at Margin Trade Show London. Her collections have been selling in Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Croatia and Japan.
At present she designes for her label OphLove sold in Italy and Japan. She's also designing Proleter-K line of t-shirts.
Elena Skoko starts her music career officially in 1996 as lead singer and author in the Italian band CUT, making noise rock'n'roll, three records and playing all around Italy and abroad. She contributed to the records of Julie's Haircut and Timoria. She was part of the indie label Gamma Pop.
In 2001 she started mixing poetry with fashion and performance and did "ophLove" . It was a fashion show where live poetry, music and clothes were used to shape emotions and build a psychomagical act.
In 2002 she collaborated with djs and turntablists for "Proleter-K fashion no-show" - MCing, scratching, good music, video, laser poetry, massive dia-projections, clothes and people, a lot of people puzzling.
From 2003 to 2005 she's doing electronic poetry (spoken words + electronic sounds) with Marta Zapparoli aka Penelopex - called 2B1C ("two blonds one computer") and played in some amazing places like Stubnitz boat in Hamburg.
In 2006 she makes her Myspace page and put on some poems, plain voice and naked emotions. She starts to collaborate with musicians and composers who wanted to put her words into their music. A collaboration with Luca Pagani was born and they did a jam session in Savona in summer 2007. It was the first time they actually met and did a show. It all worked fine and fun.
With Luigi Mastandrea - Mind she gave her voice to passionate words of a mystic Maria Maddalena de' Pazzi. It was part of a sound installation held in her church in Florence in summer 2007.
The year 2008 happened to be a decisive point in her life and music career. She makes a song "Watching Ya" with Lorenzo Montanà for Suoni di Jato, this gets her back to singing and to music business.
In this same year she moves to Bali and meets the bluesman Roberto "Bluebird" Ruggeri with whom she forms a band "Bluebird & Skoko", soon to be published for OmOm Records. So, stay tuned 'cause their new album "Trust Your Mojo, Sista" is going to make music history!
