Hailing from Prince Edward County, Ontario, with an upbringing infused with music, performing and a desire to venture beyond the stereotypical confines of the female singer/songwriter genre, musician Emily Fennell was inspired to create a pseudonym for herself and newest project; Sugarplum. Representing a meld of lower, meatier vocals and folk/country music, her debut album, Miss Twisted, contains songs of past regret, lover’s quarrels and the relationship shared between mother and child, all with her own unique “twist.”
Under the production direction of Canadian music veteran, Luther Wright, Miss Twisted boasts the musical talents of Dan Whiteley (mandolin), Dan Curtis (guitar), Chris Brown (keyboard), Michael Perlin (upright bass), Cam Giroux (drums), and Spencer Evans (accordion) who have supported the likes of Barenaked Ladies, Amy Millan of Stars, Sarah Harmer, Jenny Whiteley, Bourbon Tabernacle Choir and Luther Wright & the Wrongs.
Sugarplum breaks the mold and redefines what the folk genre has commonly entailed.
“I think I’ve officially found my new favorite Canadian voice!” – Alan Neal of CBC Bandwidth.
“…beautiful singing and songs!” – Suzie Vinnick.
Stay tuned to MySpace for upcoming shows where you can catch Sugarplum and her act performing songs off of her new album, Miss Twisted.
