On the morning of Saturday February 9th, 2008 Dave and Tricia suffered a tragic fire at their home. Everything was destroyed, including their two cars which were in the garage. They also lost one of their dogs. They made it out alive with their two children and their sons best friend Sam who was spending the night, only because their daughter Sophia woke up while the fire was raging! While they are extremely thankful to have escaped with their lives, they have lost everything! Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers while they rebuild their lives. The band will continue no matter what! One thing they noticed after the house was destroyed that only metal survived the fire to an extent. Whatever that was not metal is gone! This seems appropriate as Suhgarim is about Metal, survival and the human will to continue! After all, in the words of Bob Dylan, when you have nothing, you have nothing to lose! Suhgarim will turn this tragedy into something positive, powerful and music that is pure, emotional and will never quit! Thank you to everyone who has helped us, prayed for us, and cared for us, we truly appreciate it. Bless all of you and we hope you always have peace, good times and great friends and family!

Suhgarim started out near Venice, Italy. After relocating to South Carolina Dave and Tricia started playing out with various musicians! They formed the band UV Blue and started playing throughout South Carolina. Most notably, they won the Acoustic Therapy competition at Group Therapy with Brandon Roshto - Perc and Scott McDougal - Guitar and recorded the Kosmic Karma EP. Some of the other musicians they have played with are Robbie Hamilton - Drums, Jerry Kelly - Bass and Brian Swetnam - Keys. After taking a break to pursue other interests (Dave finished his degree in Computer Science and Patricia started her own Bath and Body business, Patrician Treasures) they started to get the itch to play again and they formed Suhgarim at the end of 2006 and started seeking out the right musicians to complement the music. They recorded the When You Bleed EP with some guest musicians at Studio C in Chapin, SC. As of April 2008 Suhgarim consists of some of the best players in South Carolina. With the rhythm section of Patt Trikk on Drums, J Leidy formally of Evil Empire on Bass and Charles Traweek on Guitar and keyboards, Dave and Tricia have not only found the best friends anyone could ask for, but also professional, creative musicians with a deep passion for music. They are currently touring the Southeast and have just finished recording their first full length CD which will be released in July of 2008!
So what does Suhgarim mean? Apparently no one really knows what our name means, or so it seems. Perhaps an explanation is in order. Ambiguity may not be the best policy as far as band names go, I suppose. People have been asking, so here goes. In it's pure form Suhgarim means absolutely nothing except the name of a rock band from Columbia, SC. However, it is a play on words. Or word actually. The original name is taken from the ENUMA ELISH which is a Babylonian creation myth which is most likely Sumerian in origin. Sumer was one of the early civilizations of the Ancient Near East, located in the southern part of Mesopotamia (southeastern Iraq) from the time of the earliest records in the mid 4th millennium BC until the rise of Babylonia in the late 3rd millennium BC, we're talking way back. Thousand of years ago to be exact. Sumer together with Ancient Egypt and the Indus Valley Civilization is considered the first settled society in the world to have manifested all the features needed to qualify fully as a "civilization". The name Suhgarim is taken from one of the fifty names of power for their god who was actually the creator of all gods. In that context Suhgarim which was the 21st name of power, SUHGURIM, means he who insures a hearing, Creator of the gods, his fathers. May his name be evoked and spoken in the land! So why the word play. Well for one, there are other bands that have taken that name as their own. Which leads to reason number two. Branding. In my opinion the best name for a band is one that can be easily branded and recognized. When someone searches for that name the first and even better the only sites returned are linked to that name, not a bunch of unrelated sites, therefore reinforcing name recognition.
And so the mystery is ended. Perhaps in spoiling the suspense we have created in you a curiosity to look into ancient history. Or perhaps not!

someone wrote a "rant&rave" in the free times saying suhgarim sounds like a cat caught in a fan belt, it sucks that prude ass hole feels the need to hate on yall. but ya no wat they say, opinions are like ass holes, everyones got one, i say most of em stink!! keep rockin on n do your thing! yall r awesome!!
