SujeethG as an artist has found his niche in the Tamil Hip Hop world. A true professional in the field he is one of the few, if not the only, artist to write his own lyrics and perform them to the finest manner only he knows how. This is unmistakably clear when listening to the likes of ‘We Tamil Boys’ and ‘Visham’; both are masterpieces in their own right.
A multi-talented young individual, he strives to display his skills. Although SujeethG has no formal musical training, he appreciates good music and has an immense library of songs and lyrics in the back of his mind. He was in a band throughout his college years in Sri Lanka where his interest in music developed. His interest in the Arts was evident from an early age. He was a member of his school drama group, who won national awards for their productions. As a young boy SujeethG had a vision of one day making his own album. But there was no intent of it being a Hip Hop album.
When in the UK, he wrote many songs for people and saw none of them turn into albums. They stayed as words on paper. So SujeethG decided to make his childhood vision a reality. Due to his lack of knowledge in Carnatic music, he decided to rap. And the rest, as they say, is history.
What’s so unique and diverse about this man is his ability to open our eyes to the flip side of the coin with his influential lyrics. His flair to open minds is appreciated by those around him. The skill to manipulate his mother tongue, Tamil, to suit any musical structure is one of his many talents. And a talent that is unmatched in the Tamil Hip Hop world so far.
Whatever the style of music he is keen to put a Tamil stamp to it. He draws his inspiration from his past experiences and from those around him. And unlike many others in the field SujeethG has the knack to express his thoughts in a way that really makes one ponder – about all aspects of life and about oneself. The title track to his second album, ‘Adi Mel Adi’, is a song that expresses the hidden truths about the society as seen through SujeethG’s eyes and is a fine example of this.
He appreciates the classic poets of the past and one would find that although his music is labelled as rap....if extracted they could also been seen as exceptional poems.
We live in a world where people like to classify, label and box individuals, however, anyone looking to do that to SujeethG will be highly disappointed.
