Phoenix New Times' annual Summer of Sound is always a highlight of the long, hot Arizona summer. What's not to love? Some of the best local bands in town, grouped by genre, playing shows where crowds get to vote to crown their favorite. This year, we're extra-excited about Summer of Sound because we can be part of something even bigger: the push to bring live music back to Tempe's Mill Avenue. That's right, this year's five-night series will take place in the heart of Tempe. Long Wong's - the legendary concert club that birthed The Gin Blossoms, Refreshments and other prominent local acts - may be gone, but we've found some bars and clubs that are eager to help bring bands back to the Valley's biggest and best strip of nightlife. We're pretty sure this is going to be the best Summer of Sound yet!
