SUMMERVILLA is comprised of many groups of recording artists and session musicians. With two releases to date 'Home In The Heart' released in 1999 and 'We Got Work To Do' released in 2004.
SUMMERVILLA came together in October 1998 to record in the family homeplace of Bassist/Producer Ross Sermons. The home, known as Summer Villa, was built in 1845 by Ross' great great grandfather in Lillington, NC. Always known as a house with open doors to all visitors Ross was inspired to invite his closest musical friends to record in the home. With the mobile studio in place they started recording, jamming, writing songs, eating and generally being merry for a whole week. Most of the songs , including nine originals, were inspired by family and memories of growing up in North Carolina. 'Home In The Heart' was released in 1999.
The musicians on 'Home In The Heart' include:
The Carter Brothers, The Gordons, The Harris Brothers, Strictly Clean and Decent, Darin Aldridge, Jaret Carter, Glen Alexander,Boyd Derring, Noah Gordon, Marc Conner, Larry Lee, Mike Compton, Vassar Clements, and Ross Sermons.
In October 2004 Ross once again brought a group together to record in Summerville Presbyterian Church, which was also built in 1849 by Ross' ancestor. With an even larger group they once again set out to spend a week recording in the historic chapel. The end result was the highly acclaimed 'We Got Work To Do".
This recording included some new recruits including Barry and Holly Tashian, Wil Maring, Robert Bowlin, Tim Lorsch, Dann Sherrill, Jon Martin, John Tomlin, Emily Singleton, Dave Higgs, Emil Justian, Mark Stoffel, Jim Reynolds, and Gene Hutchins.
