Just in time for the concert at the LUFF comes a first Sum Of R-item: a 4-Track CD-R called ‚EP I’, packed in a beautiful 7inch-jacket and released as number one of the ‚Hinterzimmer Edition’, an outlet of Hinterzimmer Records for CD-R releases in small runs. The tracks give insight into the various sides of the Sum Of R-universe, from dark ritual drone music to slow, epic doom and beyond. This EP is meant as an appetizer for the debut album on utech records (release in november 2008).

Switzerland’s Sum of R is Reto Mäder (RM74) and Christoph Hess and Roger Ziegler (Herpes Ö Deluxe) constructing/deconstructing sound in ways that infest and cloud the interior of the mind. The implements: electronics, bass guitar, piano, harmonium and Lenco turntables. The science: deep pulsations, organic drones, melodic feedback accompaniment, vinyl loops, analog sound sources, reversed audio, haunting vocal treatments. The sum: a living, breathing organism that sustains varied levels of function without ever losing its holistic unity. Photography by Rik Garrett.
SUM OF R is a side project of Reto Mäder (RM74, Ural Umbo), for which he is joined by two members of Herpes Ö DeLuxe (Roger Ziegler & Christoph Hess aka Strotter Inst.) to create slow moving episodes of hypnotic and perplexing music led by a psychedelic understanding of minimal soundforms.
In October 2008, SUM OF R released their self titled debut album on the US based experimental/avantgarde/metal label UTECH RECORDS (James Plotkin, Runhild Gammelsaeter, Nadja, The Stargazer’s Assistants, Final, Aluk Todolo, Skullflower…) and a rare 4 track release called EP I on the Swiss electroacoustic/experimental/psychedelic label HINTERZIMMER RECORDS.

hello reto today I played the Sum of R album for the first time and when it finished I pressed play again and again and again... It was with me all day long and I must say it is one of the best Droney-noisy work I have heard in quite some time. THANX A LOT !!!
