The lousy autumn 1986 in Reutlingen, Germany, seemed to be just right to puke a thing like the Sumpfpaepste into the world. First being a side-project of the legendary hardcore punk band "Genossen", Sumpfpaepste soon developped to be a real band, ready to gig the squats, mouldy basements and rundown clubs of Southwest Germany. The big followership of homeless people, punks and freaks prooved the band right to be the "Popes of the Swamp".
After the first demotape, which sold quite a few, the band improved its sound and got faster and harder. In 1988 Sumpfpaepste released their second demo produced in the fully professional "Marquee Studio". The tape got very good reviews in "Maximum Rock'n Roll", "Flipside" and the Dutch "Metal Hammer". Gigs followed all over Germany, Belgium and Hungary and the popes were offered a record deal by "We Bite Rec." and the "Marquee Studio" as producer. In 1990 "See what it is" was released and became a classic of German punkrock. In 1995 Sumpfpaepste recorded another demotape, "You will always stay", which became the last recordings with singer Micha, who preferred to change sides and became a concert manager in Stuttgart.
With new energy and a new line-up the band wrote new songs and rearranged the existing older titles. After another change in the line-up, Sumpfpaepste stabilized and were ready to gig again and record their first CD in 2000. In the same year Reutlingen`s football team entered the Second German League and Sumpfpaepste payed their tribute with a fansong on the Mini-CD "SSV 05".

MI 09.07 2008 @ Epplehaus Tübingen AL AND THE BLACK CATS + THE PHANTOMICS + THE SPLINTERS
Nimm alle Rockabilly Stereotypen und gib sie 3 jungen Punkern und Du bist ungefähr da wo AL AND THE BLACK CATS sind. Wilder und verückter als die die Stray Cats rocken sie seit zwei Jahren durch Europa und zeigen den „etablierten“ Bands was man unter Bühnenshow versteht. Auch die anderen Bands haben sich dem Upright Bass verschrieben. The Phantomics aus der Stuttgart/Shorndorf haben ihre eigene Mischung aus Outlaw Country und Psychobilly gefunden. In ähnliche Richtung gehen the Splinters aus Tübingen auf deren ersten Auftritt alle gespannt sein dürfen. An diesem Abend wird getanzt, geschwitzt, Bier getrunken und das Wochenende kurzerhand einmal vorverlegt.
VORSCHAU SA 19.07.2008 @ Epplehaus Tübingen GREAT SUMMER BASH THE TIGHT FINKS, SMALLTOWN ROCKETS und SHERIFF werden mit 77er Punk und Punk'n'Roll den Saal zum beben bringen während im Keller das ACTIVE MUSIC DJ TEAM aus Stuttgart für Tanzmusik und Partystimmung sorgen wird.

The Asteroid reist mit mächtigem Fuzzantrieb nicht durch gewöhnlichen Rockraum. Zwei unglaubliche Stimmen und packende Melodien werden Dich zu einem Level von Rockmusik mitnehmen, das vielleicht Annährungsweise als Psychedelic Spacerock beschrieben werden kann.
