SU Native is an organization based at Southwestern University, located 25 miles north of Austin, Texas. Our organization is dedicated to to provide enriching experiences which will entertain and educate participants about Native American culture and issues.
SU Native was founded in 2002 by Southwestern University student, Suncerae Smith. All works and events held by SU Native rely strictly on volunteer efforts by its members and supporters.
The association’s stated purpose: To raise awareness of Native American and indigenous teachings, values, and cultures and to build a connection between the SU community and Native issues in the Georgetown area.
The organization has sponsored many successful events on campus besides the annual Powwow, including hosting speaking engagements by prominent Native American storyteller, Emma Ortega and author and poet, Raul Salinas. The Raul Salinas talk was a collaboration between SU Native and Latinos Unidos, Southwestern’s Latin American Association.
