CLARK LORO - VOCALS -----------------------------------------------
MATTHEW PILLISCHER - GUITAR, VOCALS -----------------------------------------------
KEVIN THAXTON - UPRIGHT BASS, VOCALS -----------------------------------------------
ALEX VITTUM - DRUMS, VOCALS -----------------------------------------------
Although Sunday Labor has transformed from its original inception, the band started in late '04 as an idea between Pillischer and Vittum to create a Johnny Cash cover band. Having collaborated on many musical and artistic adventures in the past (throughout college at Bennington, and after), the pair was a natural team to begin a tribute band to one of their favorite artists. ---------------------------------
Thaxton, an old friend from Philadelphia, was brought in to play bass, and quickly, Loro, another years-old friend, added soaring harmonies. The combination of these four talents, all from varying backgrounds, brought a sound that surprised all parties. ---------------------------------
Quickly, the four members each brought new ideas/arrangements to the band, and it has since covered songs from Gillian Welch to Leadbelly to The Decemberists to Beck. Original material was introduced by Pillischer, to which each member added their own talent and input for arrangements/voicings, etc.
---------------------------------
Sunday Labor now regularly plays all-original songs about justice, peace, war, love, horses, pickles, children, and snow- while ocassionally pulling out energetic covers of "Let her Blow," "Hard, Ain't it Hard," "Irene," "Sunday Morning Sidewalk" and more..

Guys, Swan's Return sounds awesome! Is that harmonica or accordion in there? I can't seem to get my recordings that loud... are you boosting the db after you master? Can't wait to jam w/ you guys again... break a leg at Pete's Candy Store... you might want to check out Carrie Rodriguez at Pete's on Jan 19 if you get a chance. She's a fine fiddle player.
I promise to come as soon as I can! Feel free to give me an impromptu live performance in my new home when I move to the east village next month, as a housewarming gift. I'll provide drinks.
