This page is a memorial of sorts to 18 months of weekly live music and belly dance shows at Hookah Joe's (www.hookahjoes.com) in Asheville, NC from May 2005 to November 2006. It was time for a rest, so I'm enjoying having Sunday nights off for a change. Liam, Ishani and Andrew et al are holding down Sunday nights now. Check them out.
I recorded a large number of the shows during those 18 months and have hours of music that I'm still sifting through. Keep checking back because I'll be rotating the recordings and/or adding links to additional recordings hosted elsewhere.
Since the music was based on middle Eastern improvisational traditions, the "songs" don't have titles. As I upload new pieces, I'll see if I can come up with a better naming scheme.
Unfortunately, we don't have photos of everyone involved. We appreciate the ones we have and thank Marion, Sean, Michael, Steve and all the others who helped us out with photography.
We've worked with some great dancers in these shows too... Gillian, Ishani, Michelle, Miriam, Samite, Mizilca, Rowena, Blaize, Adrienne... turning music into motion.
