Sunday School Matinee is Ultragrrrl/Sarah Lewitinn's all-ages version of her infamous Stolen Transmission Party (The 5-Time Paper Magazine Nightlife Award Winning party, inspiration behind many songs, the subject of at least one book, the place where a few couples met and later wed, and thrown with her party partner KarenPlusOne/Karen Ruttner) -- which hosted performances by bands like Hot Chip, The Horrors, InnerPartySystem, Maximo Park, The Futureheads, Tokyo Police Club, and more.

Sunday School Matinee has been specifically created for teens in the NYC area that don't get to experience cool bands and DJs because almost all the venues in NYC are 21+.

Sunday School Matinee is doing something that's never been done in NYC before: It's a tastemaker-type party with on-the-verge bands, celebrity DJs, dancing and TEENAGERS that come every week with the hope of seeing something new. It's a place where they might expect to see a secret show, a rare acoustic performace, or see someone from their favorite band playing a special DJ set.

Sunday, June 28th

Have you heard that "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell" song by Das Racist? We sort of play it on repeat and have made the Wallpaper remix of that song our new ringtone. It's going to be the new Summer anthem... which is why we asked Das Racist to come and perform at the next Summer School Matinee. They'll be playing with another NYC hipsterhiphop act, Team Facelift. Too excited to deal. We had so much fun dancing with all of you on Sunday, June 28. Our calf muscles are looking amazing and we totally don't have to go to the gym for another week.
The two bands that performed were UH-MAY-ZING. First up, Paul & the Patients made us nostalgic for the back issues of the NME we've been hiding in storage and totes made up for the fact that we didn't get to see some of our favorite BritPop bands back in the day.

And the response to the second band, Zambri, was so overwhelming! Apart from the fact that they had the cutest group of kids watching them with oversized headphones, everyone that saw/heard them for the first time on Sunday came up to let us know how totally rad they were. Totally like nothing out there now, we're in love with Zambri and happy that you are as well.
Finally, our DJ Erica Dagley had the room dancing -- usually with our arms in the air -- to songs that we've nearly forgotten about and new gems that we currently can't stop singing to ourselves. As did the utterly adorable DerekTrainWreck who DJed everyone out til closing time.

Sunday, June 21st

I hope you were able to make it to Sunday School Matinee on June 21. Sorry it was on Father's Day... but we had such a great time dancing with everyone while DJ Suarez and DJ Josh Madden spun tunes for us. I was wiped out completely by the end of the night when my bros and I took my mom out for dinner.

And omg, Your Nature were unbelievable. So so so so amazing. I want to see them 100 more times this month and I think I might invite them back soon to play again. Infact, I think I might ask DJ Suarez back ASAP and Josh Madden can't wait to come back. Also, DerekTrainWreck is such a great DJ... I loved all the songs he played.

I'm really excited about this Sunday's party. We will be having live performances by Zambri as well as Paul & The Patients. Our good friend Erica Dagley from the Trainwreck Tuesdays party at Angels&Kings will also be on hand to DJ.

The first 100 people to arrive will get a special gift bag worth about $100 with all these items and more:

A couple things we absolutely love right now:

One of our friends turned us onto the website Suck.co.com and there's some stuff up there that we think kinda rule and wish that Christmas wasn't so far away:

Magic lamp shaped soap. So you can rub the lamp, make a wish, and wash your hands all at the same time.

Razor blade shaped mirror... just because we love Sweeney Todd too much.

Who tall are you? This wall measure to tell you not only how tall you are, but which famous person is as tall as you!

Drumstick pencil. For those of you who can't stop living your drumgod dreams on your school supplies.

These little dolls by oliviaew.etsy.com.

The Sounds' new album Crossing The Rubicon - Hear it here / Buy it here. We can't get enough of their song "Beatbox"!

Our new crush, Esser, from the UK and his song "Headlock". Check out the video for it here. And if you're over 21 and in NYC on June 15, he's playing at Le Royale.

The totally sassy members of La Roux and their video for "Quicksand".

We're unbelievably stoked on the fact that Stellastarr* are coming back out with a new album on July 7th, and even more happier that they already posted their song "Graffiti Eyes" on iTunes.

Previous Weeks
First of all... RIP Ed McMahon. He will be completely missed.

A couple things we absolutely love right now:

These gigantic bubble gum sculptures by Simone Decker.
Check out these things to do with your analog TVs.
Make yourself a glowing headband.

Mystery Jets cover of the Cure's "Without You" (produced by Esser, natch)

The totally sassy members of La Roux and their video for "Quicksand".

We're unbelievably stoked on the fact that Stellastarr* are coming back out with a new album on July 7th, and even more happier that they already posted their song "Graffiti Eyes" on iTunes. It was on an episode of Gossip Girl and my brother claps in the song. LOL.

We love the Raveonettes and The Legends remind us of them. Love their song "Seconds Away" that's on their MySpace.

Check back next week for more cool stuff!
