Sunheart combines old fashioned psychedelic rock-folk music with positive, uplifting lyrics for a joyous, danceable experience. The Sunheart sound is often described as “New Age-tantric-devotional-acid-folk with feminist-goddess rock.” As well as kickin’ high energy dance tunes, they sometimes also play sparkly, soft, meditative songs when the occasions suggests. Sunheart’s current lineup of players includes Eostar Kamala on Guitar and vocals, Omni on Vocals and percussion, David Sunheart on Guitar and vocals, Glenn Falkenberg on drums, Freedom on flute, Mark Stuart on bass, and Melanie Martin ..boards.
Sunheart has a very large repertoire of original songs, composed by core group members Omni, Eostar and David, plus some songs by their friends. Their songs speak to many aspects of life, with themes encompassing devotional, goddess, ecological, mystic, visionary, activist and political, path-walking, tribal, tantric, relationship, healing, self-esteem, and love. Sunheart concerts often feature old favorites their fans demand as well as new and exciting material emerging from the amazingly prolific songwriters of the group. The players are committed to harmony and integrity and to spirit over glamour and commercialism.
Sunheart is an original tie-dyed-in-the-wool song and jam band that began 26 years ago in Eugene at the famous “HUG-LOVE House” and has played mostly private and tribal gatherings for fans of all ages. Since Eostar joined the band in 2006, Sunheart has taken off into new and exciting directions and is moving out into the larger sphere of public musical venues. Sunheart has played at venues such as the Oregon Country Fair’s “Kesey Stage,” the “Family Affaire” gathering, and in various locations in Oregon and Northern California. Sunheart was the headliner for the National Essene Gathering in 2008. The band has opened concerts for and collaborated with many great musicians and bands such as Scott Huckabay, Windsong, Rhythm & Bliss, Jim Scott, David Michael, Jah Levi, Freedom Tribe, Michael Mandrell, and Fearless Love.
While hundreds of hours of Sunheart recordings exist, their first official CD is now in production and will be released soon.
