I had never heard of this band before until I went to one of their shows back in May 2008. As they began playing, the absolutely blew me away. The energy that pours out of these guys is limitless and definitely an eye and ear pleaser. During their live set, I actually have to step back a little because their energy goes everywhere and is a bit scary! But not dangerous to anyone. :) Having talked to a band member or two about what goes on in the process of their music making, there's no doubt they put their complete hearts and minds into making this music the best it can be. It's not only catchy, but it has great quality sound and techniques added in. One of the best local bands I've seen in a long, long time.

Sunken Teeth is an up and coming band from Sugar Land, Texas. I hope your ready for one of the most spontaneous and energetic sets you will ever see. Musically, David has amazing lyrics, Brad can play guitar with the best of them, Derrick is a ball of energy that is becoming a premier bassist in the Houston area, and Brett is the quiet one but he is a solid drummer. Any venue, sponsor, or record label who is ready for the future of rock then book this band. These are some of the coolest people you'll ever me. They have a ton of potential.

Dark Purple Semi Circles, the debut CD by Sunken Teeth, is a prime example of a DIY attitude paying off in a big way. Starting out with the bass drum and feedback in “Cut Into Circles” you can anticipate the chaos that will unfold. The odd time structures and metal guitar riffs by Brad Hodge are truly genius, and are accompanied by drum fills from Brett Wilkerson that will be stuck in your head all day creating a fresh look at modern hardcore. Incorporating elements of math, ambience, thrash, and punk; the entire album is original to say the least. The harsh vocals from David Zamudio, a poet in his own right, coincide with the mess the rest of the band has made making the tracks seem even darker. The highlights of the album for me were “TUBES”, “InandOut Ears”, and “Rapists Get All the Girls”. The compositions of these songs are very well thought out and simply make you want to stomp the pit. The album’s recording quality is a bit sketchy, which in most cases would prove to be negative, however, it sticks out and makes Dark Purple Semi Circles feel like you’re there live. You can get the image of these four artists frantically running about a dark venue inspiring the crowd to cause a riot. However, there are a few downsides to this album. For instance, its only 9 tracks long clocking in at 21:23 and it will leave you wanting more. The final track, an instrumental cleverly named “Instru(MENTAL)” isn’t a bad song, but it doesn’t seem to live up to the other songs the preceded it on the CD. The only other complaint is that I felt Derrick Martinez’s bass lines didn’t shine through as much as I would have hoped for and were a bit low. All in all without out a doubt Sunken Teeth have created a masterpiece that is innovative and pushing modern hardcore. The future of this band is one to watch, and I’m sure they will not disappoint.
The bottom line is: buy this album, you won’t regret it.

Finished the art for the singles today thanks to the help of James, Kara and Sarah Sage. 100 cds in thin jewel cases w/ the iconic tooth on the cover in spray paint. Hand numbered in paint pen and multicolor sharpie text on the cd. Nine different Colors, Neon Orange, Neon Yellow, Neon Green, Neon Pink, Bright Metallic Gold, Bright Metallic Silver, White, Black and of course Purple. These will be sold for one buck and will be released this monday at super happy fun land.

man that summer video or whatever is a joy to watch. simply for those finger tap parts. i mean the guitarist in my band does it, and a few other locals but its more tera melos chilled out and pretty. you guys are makin some dirty dirty music, and i love every second of it.
