108 Sun Salutations for our Environment
Parc Jeanne-Mance (on Duluth, b/w Parc and l’Esplanade)
Sunday August 12 2007 in case of rain - Sunday August 19)at 9am
This fragile earth needs a voice. It needs change. It needs action.
The art of Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years, inspired from our beloved natural world. One of the most ancient rituals in Hatha Yoga is Surya Namaskar: Sun Salutations. In Sanskrit, surya means sun, and namaskar means to bow or honour. Each sun salutation begins and ends with our hands to our hearts, expressing our love and gratitude for life on this earth.
Join us on August 12, 2007 with 108 sun salutations to take action, raise awareness and celebrate this beautiful earth.
To register or donate, please call Dawn 514-965-3296 or Jayme 514-261-9642.
Registration forms are also available for pick up at the Joy of Yoga Studio, 460 Ste. Catherine St. O., suite 403.
For every $108 raised, $101 will go directly to Greenpeace and their efforts.

Why 108?
The number 108 is a sacred number in Hindu and Buddhist traditions and there are many interpretations of it.
One interpretation that is quite fitting for this event is that the diameter of the sun is 108 times the diameter of the Earth.
By doing 108 Sun Salutations, we are saluting and celebrating the sun and all the life it brings to our Earth.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Continuous sun salutations develop into a beautiful meditation in motion. Please remember that yoga is a practice of compassion. At any time during the 108 sun salutations the practitioner may take a break, or even stop all together, if necessary.

ABOUT ME
Dawn Mauricio
Dawn is a Hatha Yoga Instructor and Studio Manager at the Joy of Yoga Studio.
She had been involved in sports and physical activity all her life, but always felt that something was missing. It was in the year 2000 that she discovered yoga in Montreal, where she soon realized the potential for spiritual fulfillment that she had yearned for.
In 2005 Dawn traveled to South East Asia where she visited a Buddhist monastery and completed a Vipassana meditation retreat. When she combined both Hatha yoga and Buddhist meditation, she felt profound results and an intense happiness that she immediately wanted to share with others.
Upon her return to Montreal, Dawn began a Yoga Teacher Training with Hart Lazer. Since then, she has been continuing her Yoga education, studying with exceptional teachers such as Maalaa for Kids’ Yoga, Kelly McGrath for training in the Kripalu tradition, Janice Clarfield for Pre-Natal Yoga. Dawn is also registred to attend the upcoming Kripalu Yoga Teacher's Association Conference at the Kripalu Center in Massachusetts and am starting in October 2007 an 18-month Mindfulness Yoga and Buddhist Meditation Training Program with the likes of Jack Kornfield and Stephen Cope.
Dawn has a big heart, which is always evident through her contagious smile. She is generous, down to earth, and always makes her students feel welcome and at home.
She looks forward to sharing her passion for yoga with you.
